Lab Summary:
The Standards & Mobility Innovation team is committed to developing technologies that enable ubiquitous access to information and provide immersive multimedia experiences for mobility users. Our research focuses on:
- Wireless standards and technology including 5G/6G, Wi-Fi, FiRa/UWB, MPEG, AOM, CSA Matter, CSA ACWG, CCC, etc
- RF & fast prototyping of 5G and IEEE 802 wireless systems and/or use cases
- Multimedia standards and technology including VR, HDR, All-IP delivery
- IoT standards and Smart Home connectivity/sensing technology
Position Summary:
Join the SMI lab of Samsung Research America to contribute to the development of Samsung's vision of next generation of wireless communication and sensing technology.
Position Responsibilities:
- Perform research for advanced AI based semantic aware wireless connectivity and/or sensing solutions and systems, with focus on the needs for Samsung products including phones, wearables and digital appliances
- Take conceptual ideas and convert them into technical requirements and specifications of new features
- Design, implement and verify algorithms, via simulations or prototyping, based on technical requirements and specifications
- Work within cross-functional, cross-divisional teams and assist in the design, analysis and performance evaluation from concept to completion
Required Skills:
- Currently a PhD student in EE / ECE/CS in a related field
- Research experience with Wi-Fi, BLE, Cellular, satellite communication system is preferred
- Solid background in wireless communication and protocols such as TCP/IP, PDCP, RTSP, QUIC, UDP, FEC, and semantic communication, etc.
- Solid background and hands-on experience in latest AI technology including RL, agent, LLM/VLM, fine-tuning, foundation models, CLIP, VAE, MAE, on-device AI etc.
- Familiarity with wireless connectivity standards, such as cellular, Wi-Fi, BLE and Thread, is preferred
- Familiar with RF sensing technology including Wi-Fi CSI, BLE, mmWave radar, acoustic etc.
- Familiarity with low power solutions and technologies in wireless communication system is referred.
- Excellent working knowledge using Python and Python based ML modules such as Scikit-learn, Keras, Tensor flow, Keras-RL, PyTorch and Pandas libraries
- Experience implementing machine learning algorithms for solving challenging problems preferably in wireless connectivity and/or sensing system design
- Proven skills in the simulation of cellular network or connectivity technologies, to derive tradeoffs and to predict performance in diverse channel conditions
- Experience in system or link level simulations
- Ability to clearly define high level requirements and criteria to be used in the evaluation of air interface technology alternatives
- Excellent verbal communication and writing skills to effectively represent the derived results and technical concepts developed in the course of the work
