Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Investment Accounting & Reporting Intern!
About the program
As an intern, you will work with the Investment Accounting & Reporting team and assist with financial data analysis, report preparation, assist with process improvements, and research to support daily work and to assist with monthly and quarterly reporting. They will work closely with the Data Analytics team to help streamline operational processes to improve team efficiency, automation buildouts and collaborate with team members on special projects and initiatives. Additionally, the intern will use and learn tools such as Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and other internal financial systems.
Symetra's Internship Program for Summer 2026 is entirely remote - all interns will learn and work in a virtual setting. The internship duration is 12 weeks.
Your responsibilities may include
- Participate in the company’s accounting close and reporting cycles, and perform ledger and holdings reconciliations to ensure financial accuracy
- Quarterly reporting and analysis; work with GAAP and Statutory reporting teams for appropriate disclosure presentation and language
- Support cash operations and cash custody deliverables
- Prepare journal entries, financial analytics, management reports, schedules for internal/external auditors, and other deliverables
- Research and document accounting issues. Prepare/draft new or updated accounting analyses and policies
- Identify areas for improvement and complete projects with project lead
- Produce a high-quality product with review comments for improvement while resolving issues with minimal guidance.
Your education, experience and skills
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program (Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field preferred)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel; familiarity with Power BI or similar tools is a plus
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- Eagerness to learn and contribute in a fast-paced environment
- Must meet all eligibility criteria set forth by the SEED Internship Program
- Strong process improvement skills and the ability to "think outside the box"
- Desire to work in a challenging and fast-paced work environment
- Desire to work with a team where growth and improvement are encouraged and supported
- Excellent attention to detail and organization skills
