Position Duties

  • Program Dates: The 2026 internship program will begin on May 18, 2026, and end on July 31, 2026.
  • Internship Hours: Up to 27 hours/week (maximum), Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; may vary by department.
  • Pay Range: $16 per hour up to $20 per hour (graduate/ master’s student), based on the number of credit hours earned. 

Short description of the project:

This internship project will review and test departmental SOPs to ensure they are accurate and practical. The intern will inventory current procedures, observe staff completing tasks, and attempt to perform selected tasks using only the written documentation. Any gaps, unclear steps, or inconsistencies will be identified and corrected. The intern will update and standardize the SOPs so they reflect actual daily operations and can be used effectively for training. Final deliverables include a revised SOP manual and a feedback tool to support ongoing updates. The project will help maintain consistency and stability as staff and processes change.

Department Responsibilities:

      • Review and issue building permits to ensure compliance with County codes and regulations.

      • Conduct building inspections across structural, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and floodplain areas.

      • Review development and construction plans for compliance with zoning and land development codes.

      • Manage contractor licensing and registration requirements.

      • Support planning, zoning, and land use processes, including public hearing coordination.

Internship Program Responsibilities:

  • A presentation to the County Administrator and other County Leadership staff is required at the close of the internship program. 
  • Participate in all organized intern events and trainings. 

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, or equivalent (if applicable). 
  • Eligible to work in the United States – we love local, national, and international students!  
  • Currently seeking a diploma or degree through an accredited secondary or post-secondary educational program, or within 12 months after graduation.
