Team Overview
Applied Materials’ Common Systems Software Department is searching for an intern to join our team in summer 2026! Our department develops the software for the control system of our products, which includes the real-time control of devices such as robots, motors, generators, pumps, flow controllers and sensors. Our work includes creating algorithms to optimize material deposition and removal on an atomic scale, user interface design, data collection, storage and analysis, remote access and security.
2026 Summer internship program start/end dates:
- Tuesday, May 26 - Friday, August 14
- Monday, June 8 - Friday, August 28
- Monday, June 15 - Friday, September 4
The position will entail the following:
- Designs and develops code for software projects as directed.
- Assists in troubleshooting a variety of moderately difficult software problems
- Creates and executes test plans on simulators, test benches or the lab
- Develops software documentation
- Interacts and works closely with the team
Requirements
- Student must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field
- Student must be in good academic standing at their university, with a preferred GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Good troubleshooting and problem solving skills
- Is result oriented and has passion to contribute ideas, to influence others and to succeed
- Proficiency and experience in C++ is required
- In addition, experience in programming in one or more of the following areas is desired:
- Real-time Control
- Motion Control
- Embedded Programming
- Multi-threading
- C#, .NET
- Visual Studio
