PURPOSE:

The 6S Facilities Technician is responsible for maintaining workplace organization, cleanliness, and visual management standards throughout the facility in support of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role supports production, maintenance, warehouse, and common areas by performing cleaning, organizing, labeling, sorting, disposal, and facility improvement activities in accordance with 6S principles (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain, and Safety).

 

The 6S Facilities Technician works to improve work environments, eliminate unnecessary materials, and maintain organized, safe, and efficient work areas.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Perform daily 6S activities across production, maintenance, warehouse, storage, and office areas.
  • Assemble and organize workplace equipment and organizational items, including workbenches, carts, shelving, and storage systems.
  • Sort, organize, label, relocate, and dispose of materials, scrap, obsolete equipment, and unnecessary items throughout the facility.
  • Assist with organization and cleanup of storage areas, IT rooms, connex containers, maintenance spaces, closets, overhead storage areas, and production support areas.
  • Support facility-wide organization initiatives, including:
    • Labeling shelves, closets, and storage locations
    • Organizing material handling areas
    • Removing trash, empty containers, and unused materials
    • Organizing maintenance and production support supplies
    • Cleaning and organizing areas above production spaces and offices
    • Supporting visual workplace improvements
    • Maintain and restock cleaning supplies, safety materials, and 6S stations.
    • Assist with painting, facility appearance improvements, and workplace upkeep projects as assigned.
    • Conduct routine cleaning of floors, machinery, workstations, storage areas, and production support equipment.
  • Support teams in identifying and removing scrap, waste, and nonconforming materials.
  • Participate in 6S audits, corrective action activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work closely with Supervisors and Team Leads to identify workplace organization opportunities and maintain established standards.
  • Collaborate effectively across departments to prioritize and complete assigned projects.
  • Seek opportunities to improve workplace organization, efficiency, and safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of production and quality objectives

 

SPECIAL SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Comply with all applicable safety requirements, policies, and procedures while maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly work environment.
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety mindset.
  • Ability to life and/or move up to 35 pounds.
  • Report all work-related injuries, illnesses, hazards, or unsafe conditions immediately to supervision.
  • Participate in required training, medical monitoring, and safety and health programs.
  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas.
  • Work effectively in environments with varying temperatures, noise levels, and production activity.
  • Meet established attendance requirements and maintain reliable punctuality.
  • Work overtime, weekends, or off-shift schedules as required.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
  • Prior experience in manufacturing, janitorial, warehouse, maintenance, or industrial cleaning environments preferred.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and 5S/6S principles preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining organized and clean work environments.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong work ethic with willingness to take ownership of assigned areas and tasks.
