Position Summary
The District Manager in Training (DMIT) is an inspiring field leader who trains under the District Sales Manager to drive product sell-through, deliver key business results, and develop store associates within an assigned geographic area. DMITs ensure operational principles are followed and that every store delivers exceptional service through expertise in Lids products and services. This role typically supports a smaller market (approximately 3–5 stores) within the district under the guidance of the DSM.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
People & Training Development
• Guide hiring strategy with planning, recruiting, and turnover and LOA considerations; develop Store Managers in recruiting and training.
• Clarify expectations and coordinate onboarding to acclimate new team members to Lids.
• Build engagement and culture through productive store visits, recognition, and continuous coaching.
• Model respectful leadership and uphold Lids Brand Standards and company policies.
• Hold Store Managers accountable for managing and developing their teams and for policy compliance.
• Address employee concerns and administer progressive discipline; partner with HR and/or RD as appropriate.
• Document performance with consistent, constructive feedback aligned to Company objectives.
• Collaborate across channels and districts using Discussion Boards and regional chat platforms.
• Complete the DMIT Training Program to build skills in recruiting, coaching, leading, and training.

Customer Experience
• Ensure exceptional service leading to strong KPIs and sales targets.
• Create a selling culture by training and coaching on selling techniques and product knowledge.
• Resolve escalations and urgent requests, making it right for customers.
• Drive participation in special offers and programs by ensuring teams are educated on details.
Additional Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Operations
• Align schedules and payroll with budget, policies, procedures, and applicable law.
• Hold Store Managers accountable for planning and managing schedules including labor, availability, safety, and inventory.
• Maintain continuity through disruptions such as closures, absenteeism, or operating hour impacts; step in as needed.
• Execute company directives, promotions, and initiatives from Lids Headquarters.
• Uphold safety policies to ensure a safe work environment.
• Maintain technology and equipment including MPOS and Lids Custom through audits, updates, and repairs.
• Manage facilities and supplies through service requests and replenishment.
• Support inventory audits and analyze discrepancies to confirm accuracy.
• Ensure proper cash management including accurate open and close procedures, counterfeit controls, and regular bank drops.

Product & Inventory Management
• Maintain visual brand standards including layout and VM strategy, window activations, hardware and mannequin flips, and regular refreshes.
• Monitor sell-through by tracking product levels and inventory accuracy.
• Oversee pricing including weekly markups, markdowns, and in-hour promotional signage adjustments.
• Manage transfers and ship-backs, including damages, in line with company standards.
Job Required Knowledge and Skills
• One year of relevant experience; or a two-year degree with at least two years of relevant experience; or three years of relevant experience.
• Proven supervisory skills and ability to coach for performance.
• Ability to perform independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong interpersonal skills and clear, professional verbal communication.
• Computer proficiency and ability to use retail systems and software.
Physical and Travel Requirements
• Ability to sit, stand, and walk; use hands; reach; stoop, kneel, and crouch; and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
• Valid driver’s license, insurance, and ability to drive an automobile.
• Driving required for up to 100% of the daily work schedule; standing up to 90%.
• Ability and willingness to travel overnight for training and/or business meetings.
• Position requires less than 50% travel.
