Position Summary

UNM Neurology in the UNM School of Medicine plays a critical role in improving the health of all New Mexicans. Our department is the Southwestern hub for advanced neurological diagnosis and patient care. We seek a dynamic individual to join our team as an Accountant 2 to be a part of our important mission.

This position will be responsible for the research operations and assist with unrestricted budgetary process for the department. The duties of the position include:

·       Provide guidance and support to faculty in the preparation of internal and external grant

·       Contract and clinical trial applications

·       Maintain the fiscal operations of all restricted Research funds including budgeting

·       Monitor and reconciliation of restricted and unrestricted indexes

·       Analysis revenues and expenses for both grants and clinical trials;

·       Prepare monthly financial reports for investigators and departmental leadership,

·       Oversee the life cycle of all the department’s research awards including proposal development and review with SPO, award setup with Contract & Grant, award monitoring and compliance, and closeout.

·       Process routine daily financial transactions

·       Make purchases,

·       Complete journal entries

·       Labor redistributions

·       Monitor billings and accounts receivables for grants and clinical trials contracts. 

This position is an important part of the department’s senior finance and research team and will play a key role in assisting with the department’s annual budget.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 12 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in Accounting or Business Management
  • Experience with NIH awards and proposal submissions
  • Prior experience maintaining a research award from submission, pre-award to post-award in an academic setting
  • Proficient in MS Suite applications especially Excel and MS Access to analyze/interpret financial data and prepare financial reports
  • Experience working in Banner, MyReports, Chrome River financial systems
  • Experience working with web-based grant submission software
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member
  • The ability to interpret and provide guidance to investigators in the application of general and specific funding policies, regulations, and requirements
  • Ability to learn, understand and apply the University’s Restricted Accounting policies
  • Ability to meet deadlines while working in a team environment
