Accountant – Assoc-Staff (Tax)

GRADE LEVEL:  51-52

DEPARTMENTState and Local Tax

STARTING SALARY: $62,200 – $95,774    Salary is commensurate with experience     

JOB FAMILY SUMMARY PURPOSE: 

Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor – Tax Department, this role performs various routine and/or assisting with the non-routine professional tax accounting functions of the Tax Department. Ensures compliance with State and Federal regulations, review internal and external reports and ensures proper maintenance of tax records and the General Ledger systems and ensure proper application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting

EXPERIENCE:

  • 0-5 years of experience preferred 

 MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: 

  1. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  2. Knowledge of Federal tax laws, rules, regulations and reporting procedures.

  3. Knowledge of the electric utility business preferred.

  4. Ability to operate personal computer, interpret laws, analyze information and prepare comprehensive taxation reports.

  5. Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  6. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with officers, managers, fellow employees, and the general public.

  7. Ability to maintain a strong sense of propriety concerning confidential matters.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:      

  1. Prepares or assists in the preparation of tax data for various reports such as monthly internal financial reports, FERC Form 1 and E.E.I. statistical analysis report, and the filing of various tax reports.

  2. Prepares schedules to support state and local and/or federal tax returns.

  3. Prepares rate case schedules and discovery responses on taxes.

  4. Collaborates with Financial Planning in budgeting and forecasting tax related issues.

  5. Prepares special projects, research and analysis of tax issues.

  6. Prepares monthly tax entries to be recorded in the general ledgers.

  7. Prepares audit work papers on taxes.

  8. Reviews literature on public utility updates for issues directly affecting the Company from a tax accounting standpoint.

  9. Keeps abreast of changing tax regulations and internal policies.

  10. Participates in and/or prepares continuous training to other staff in tax activities, utilizing the applicable aforementioned department peripherals.

  11. Assist in documentation and enhancement of the data processing system utilizing the applicable aforementioned department peripherals.

  12. Prepares and/or reviews tax account reconciliations from tax returns to the General Ledger, utilizing the applicable aforementioned department peripherals.

  13. Complies with all applicable Company policies, procedures and code of ethics as well as all applicable governmental laws and regulations to include employment, safety and environmental standards and regulations. 

  14. Perform other related tasks that are not included but are within the context of the duties defined.
