The Accountant maintains, reconciles, records, and analyzes financial accounting transactions for assigned business units and supports the preparation of financial statements in accordance with company standards and federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.

Essential Activities and Tasks 

Administration and Reporting - 60%

  • Prepares and records financial accounting transactions necessary to provide monthly financial statements within the designated timeframe.

  • Prepares monthly financial statements and reports (i.e. accounts receivable cash receipts report, key indicators report, etc.) within the designated timeframes.

  • Records annual budget information and budget changes in the financial accounting system.

  • Performs additional activities and tasks outlined below, as applicable.

Financial Management - 30%

  • Supports supervisor and location staff in the design of controls and processes, as well as implementation and conversion of relevant accounting systems.

  • Assists in monthly review of financials.

  • Assists in the development, preparation, and completion of the annual budget.

  • Performs additional activities and tasks outlined below, as applicable.

Operations Management - 10%

  • Participates in the routine assessment of internal control procedures and development of enhancements.  

  • Provides comprehensive support to and in conjunction with the supervisor in communication with, training of, and monitoring staff at assigned location(s) and departmental staff in the implementation and proper use of accounting and internal control systems on an ongoing basis.

All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field required.

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred. Candidate toward achieving CPA a plus.

Experience

  • No accounting experience required. On-the-job training provided.

  • Business experience preferred.

  • Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and the internet required.

  • Proficiency with a financial accounting and reporting system preferred.

Other Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

Working Conditions and Special Requirements

  • Sitting - Up to 8 hours/day

  • Standing - Up to 2 hours/day

  • Walking - Up to 2 hours/day

  • Lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving equipment, supplies, etc - Up to 25 pounds

  • Driving - Up to 6 hours/day

  • Risk Category for Exposure to Bloodborne Diseases - III
