The West Virginia Division of Administrative Services is seeking a detail-oriented professional for the role of Accountant/Auditor 2. Operating under close supervision at the entry-level, you will primarily support the financial administration of state and federal grants. Your core focus will be the monthly review, validation, and authorization of fund distributions to sub-grantees, ensuring all transactions meet rigorous standards. To ensure seamless operations, the incumbent will frequently collaborate with criminal justice program specialists to proactively resolve any issues or deficiencies. Additionally, the role includes assisting in the onboarding and training of new accounting staff and performing other related duties as assigned.
We are looking for a candidate who has a solid working knowledge of accounting and auditing principles. Success requires exceptional organizational skills, with the proven ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively in a dynamic environment. Building strong working relationships is essential, so the candidate must demonstrate effective communication skills when engaging with internal staff, outside agencies, and the sub-grantees.
The role involves highly sensitive data, the administrator must exercise strict confidentiality regarding sub-grantee grant information and any associated personally identifiable information (PII). Technical proficiency is a key component of the daily workflow. The candidate must be skilled in using Microsoft Office and Google applications to manage administrative tasks. Importantly, the role requires the specific ability to confidently navigate, enter, and retrieve relevant financial data within the WV Oasis system.
Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and will be subject to a comprehensive criminal history records check. We will complete an extensive inquiry into job-related information to determine suitability for the position. This may include, but is not limited to, reviews of criminal records, driving records, past employment history, and education and training credentials. Failing to cooperate with this process, providing false or incomplete information, or the subsequent discovery of disqualifying information will result in immediate denial of employment, regardless of when that information is discovered.

Training: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with at least 24 semester hours in accounting.
AND
Experience: One (1) year of full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience in accounting, statutory accounting or auditing work.
OR
Substitutions: (1) Graduate coursework in accounting may substitute at a rate of 15 semester hours for one (1) year of the required experience. (2) Certification or registration as a Public Accountant in West Virginia may be substituted for the training and required experience.
NOTE: At the appointing agency’s discretion, competitive candidates may receive probationary appointment pending official verification of the qualifying training or certification. The qualifying training or certification must be verified before the employee may be certified permanent.
Other Qualifications
NOTE: An additional one (1) year of experience in accounting, auditing, bookkeeping, and/or finance may substitute for the required accounting semester hours at the rate of one (1) year of experience for every thirty (30) semester hours.
