Minimum Qualifications

The Auditor-Controller’s Office is inviting applications for a motivated Accountant-Auditor I (Property Tax) to join its team and play a key role in promoting accountability and transparency in County government. This position offers an opportunity to develop and apply accounting and auditing expertise in a dynamic local government setting.
As part of the Property Tax team, incumbents will perform complex property tax computations, work with taxing jurisdictions and the State of California, and ensure compliance with Revenue and Taxation Legislation and policies. Typical duties include analyzing financial data, perform reconciliations of accounts between two systems (financial and property tax), working as both a team and as an individual on projects, and compile and submit various reports mandated by the State.
The Accountant-Auditor classification series is flexibly staffed, with advancement opportunities. The current recruitment is being conducted to fill one full-time vacancy in the Auditor-Controller’s Office. The eligibility list established by this recruitment may also be used to fill future full-time, part-time, limited term, and extra-help vacancies for up to one year.
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Agreed Salary Increases and Winter Time Off:
- 3.5% COLA increase effective 7/1/2026
- 32 hours of Winter Time Off
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Experience and Education:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
Pattern A:
Experience: No experience is required.
Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting or a closely related field. If the major has been in a field other than accounting, at least 15 units of college level accounting courses must have been completed.
Pattern B:
Experience: Two years of recent professional level accounting experience equivalent to an Accountant-Auditor I.
Education: An Associate’s degree from an accredited college with major course work in accounting or a closely related field. If the major has been in a field other than accounting, at least 15 units of college level accounting courses must have been completed.
Pattern C:
Certification: Possession of a Certified Public Accountant Certificate.
License or Certificate*:
A position assigned to this class may require possession of a valid California Driver's License.
*Any license, certification, registration, or appointment required for this position shall be maintained (i.e., active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.

Other Qualifications
Napa County employees automatically become Disaster Service Workers. This means that when Napa County experiences emergencies (earthquake, wildfire, power outage, etc.) you may be asked to pivot from your regular duties to provide critical services to those affected by the emergency (CA Govt Code § 3102).
