The Position
The City of Maple Grove is seeking a detail-oriented Accountant! In this position, you will be responsible for management of all general accounts receivable functions at the city. The position also manages the accounting and reporting for Park and Recreation activities, city owned housing and transit operations. You will also lead efforts in preparing the annual budget and capital improvement plan while enhancing communication with departments to streamline financial processes. Position Duties
- Prepares work papers and audit schedules and assists auditors with questions related to the annual audit.
- Assists in the preparation of the annual financial report.
- Prepare, schedule, and assist in the preparation of the annual budget.
- Prepare documents and assist with preparing the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).
- Communicate with departments on the completion and management of data for the creation of the final Budget and CIP documents.
- Reconciles monthly bank statements and selected general ledger accounts both monthly and quarterly. Monitors and reviews banking and purchasing card activity with banks.
- Prepare monthly journal entries.
- Reconciles and balances subsidiary ledgers to general ledgers.
- Compiles data for generating monthly, quarterly or annual financial reports.
- Monitors monthly account balances to detect errors and ensure the integrity of financial records.
- Provides documentation and financial reports as required for grant programs.
- Prepares annual reports for state auditors and other government agencies; provides information or prepares reports as required by other departments.
- Reviews/approves accounts payable to ensure proper coding and budget authorization.
- Assists in the development and execution of controls necessary to ensure accuracy and security of financial records.
- Develops applications using spreadsheets, graphics, communications, or database manager packages; provides support to members of the department with applications.
- Prepares and maintains various accounting and engineering schedules for engineering projects; also assists the City Engineer in reviewing the status of engineering projects.
- Assists in the accounting for special assessments.
- Assists in Payment Card Industry (PCI) data security processes to ensure compliance with PCI-DSS standards.
- Assists the Finance Director and Assistant Finance Director in special projects as needed.
- Coordinates efforts to ensure the City of Maple Grove is an equitable, inclusive, and respectful organization and supports the City’s mission, vision, and core values.
- Demonstrates ability to understand and respect the diversity of customers and co-workers, effectively communicating with individuals whose first language may be one other than English.
- Performs other related duties as apparent or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance-related field from an accredited university or college.
- One year of increasingly responsible experience in the accounting field.
Nice to have:
- Experience as a supervisor.
- Experience within the accounting field for a municipality.
- Experience with LOGIS.
- Experience with JDE, Hubble, or other Report Writer Software.
