About the Department

The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) announces an examination process to create an eligibility list to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Accountant I/II in the Financial Services Department. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to four (4) months.

Accountant I
This is the entry-level and training class in the Accountant classification series. Incumbents in this class perform a variety of less complex accounting work and are expected to increase their skill and knowledge of technical accounting during the training period. Progression to the next level is flexibly staffed and contingent upon meeting requirements of the class, funding, and recommendation of the hiring authority.  
 
Accountant II
This is the journey level class within the Accountant series and distinguished from the entry-level position by the performance of the full range of duties assigned including staff training, report and budget preparation, and ledger maintenance. Incumbents receive occasional instruction and work with more independence. Work assignments are more complex and/or reviewed less frequently than the entry level class.



Position Duties

Accountant I 
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting, finance, business, or a closely related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two (2) years of accounting experience is preferred.  
Accountant II 
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting, business, or a related field, AND
  • Four (4) years of experience in accounting, with a preference in governmental accounting experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
  • Position may require specialized skills, experience, certification, or other requirements which will be identified by the hiring authority at time of recruitment.
