Position Overview

This position will support the financial accounting and reporting of operations with a heavy emphasis on sample manufacturing. This includes, but is not limited to, month-end closing activities, periodic reporting and analysis, and inventory reconciliation. The position will work closely with corporate accounting staff, Sample manufacturing, and the industrial engineering team. This position will report within the Corporate Manufacturing Accounting department. 

Objectives: 

  • Develop understanding of Sample’s Accounting. Coordinate the accounting and reporting of operating variances for specific departments which may include Soft Surface, Hard Surface, Planning, Merchandising, Outside Processing, and Distribution facilities within the Samples Division. This will include interaction with and guidance of plant-level resources as well as interaction with corporate staff. This will include month-end closing activities for those departments and will require the candidate to become proficient at reviewing the work of others to correct and prevent errors. 

  • Develop working relationships and partnerships with Sample’s Manufacturing and Operations. At times this may involve site visits and participation on plant-level (and possibly divisional) teams. 

  • Develop an understanding of our accounting systems and how they relate to operations. These systems include Oracle Fusion, PeopleSoft Financials, Impact, Power BI, QlikView, PAW (Planning Analytics Workspace), and TM1. 

Essential Duties: 

  • Perform month-end closing tasks for multiple Sample’s departments  

  • Perform routine and ad-hoc reporting for Sample’s and operations support 

  • Perform certain data analysis and manipulation tasks as needed to include routine loading of monthly journal entries 

  • Communicate effectively with people at various levels within our company and those of outside companies as well 

  • Support Accounts Payable when needed 

  • Other duties as assigned by manager 

Minimum Job Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field 

  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills 

  • Demonstrate a good working knowledge of computerized accounting systems 

  • Self-motivated individual who follows directions well and works well with limited oversight 

  • Must be able to work effectively in a deadline-oriented environment 

  • Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness and attention to detail  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: 

  • Basic understanding of accounting/costing principles and ability to learn  

  • Ability to communicate accounting information, policies, and procedures in an easily understood manner 

  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment 

  • Ability to work well with a diverse group of people at various levels within and outside the company 

  • Strong Microsoft Office foundation with emphasis on spreadsheets and data manipulation 

  • Knowledge of computerized information systems used in financial and/or accounting applications 

  • Ability to recognize problems and offer possible solutions (self-starter strongly preferred)
