Job Title: Accounting and Finance Rotational Trainee

Location: Houston, TX

Employment Type: Full-Time

TMHCC’s Accounting and Finance Rotation Program (24 months) is designed to progressively build the trainee’s knowledge and provide a foundational understanding of Accounting & Finance through formal rotations, on the job training, and professional development. This role is designed for recent graduates or early-career professionals who wish to develop their skills and gain hands-on experience in finance and accounting functions. The Trainee will rotate through 4 major accounting disciplines during the program – General Accounting, Reinsurance Accounting & Insurance Operations, Tax, Internal Audit & Controls. The Trainee may also get the opportunity to work directly with our business partners in various specialty lines of business. Upon successful completion of the Program, the trainee has the opportunity to move into a position within one of the Finance & Accounting disciplines.

Job Responsibilities: During the 24-month rotation, the trainee will:

  • Be participative in knowledge transition sessions and work on applying knowledge acquired in college to on the job training
  • Understand and follow best practices, standards, and technical approaches within Accounting and Finance
  • General Accounting
    • Learn end-to-end accounting cycle processes
    • Assist with the preparation of financial statements and reports
    • Perform data entry and maintain accurate financial records
    • Assist with monthly/quarterly close, financial statements, and technical research.
    • Support accounts payable and receivable functions
    • Gain exposure to investment accounting and financial analysis
    • Training in IFRS
    • Understand reinsurance contracts and accounting processes
  • Tax:
    • Help with tax preparation and compliance tasks
    • Exposure to domestic and international tax compliance and reporting.
    • Assist with tax provision calculations and planning projects.
  • Internal Audit and Controls:
    • Participate in audits and internal control reviews
    • Participate in risk assessments, audit planning, and execution.
    • Evaluate internal controls and compliance frameworks.
    • Gain experience in risk mitigation and corporate governance
  • Learn and use various accounting software and tools
  • Provide administrative support to the finance department as needed
  • Complete assignments in a thorough, consistent, and punctual manner
  • Support ad hoc projects and initiatives within the Finance team.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Recent recipient of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3.5 GPA or higher in major and overall
  • Self-directed learner with the ability to learn quickly and pursue each rotation with enthusiasm and focus
  • Eagerness to learn and develop in a professional finance environment.
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications; exposure to accounting/ERP systems is an advantage.
  • Adapt to change quickly
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a matrix team environment

Preferred:

  • Internship or prior experience in an accounting or finance-related role
  • Familiarity with financial regulations and standards
  • Progress toward a professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, CIA)
