Under general supervision, is responsible for processing and verifying daily cash receipts and cost bills; prepares daily cash report; processes payments; mails cost bills; verifies docket worksheet; prepares reverse accounting entries; answers questions regarding billing payments and procedures; prepares itemized statements; mails refund checks; prepares reversal worksheet; maintains documentation; mails monthly checks; prepares certificates of court costs; acts as backup for cashiers; and performs related duties as required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Processes and verifies department cashiering daily cash receipts and cost bill transactions by verifying fee codes, service descriptions and check/billing amounts
Prepares the daily cash report and turns in all monies to the County Treasurer's Office
Processes court cost payments received in person or by mail
Mails cost bills on court cost due on transfer cases and routes cost bills on court costs due for tax cases
Verifies and corrects daily docket detail report
Prepares reverse entries for adjustments on receipt payments by insufficient fund check
Answers questions in person and by telephone regarding payments on court cost and department billing procedures
Prepares itemized billing statements for appeal case transcripts
Mails refund checks for overpayments
Prepares reversal worksheet to correct erroneous information pertaining to wrong case numbers description and service cancellation
Files and maintains documentation such as photocopies of checks due to unknown case numbers
Mails monthly checks for fees collected for entities such as Commercial Recorder, Sheriff's Office, City Attorney and precincts
Prepares certificates of court cost for cost due on tax cases
Acts as backup to department Cashier/Clerks
Performs related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from High School or a General Education Development (GED) certificate, one (1) year in account management or bookkeeping experience and one (1) year cashiering experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of account management and basic accounting procedures
Skill in operating personal computer, 10-key adding machine, typewriter and basic office equipment
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations; ability to deal with hostile or irrational people; ability to effectively respond to inquiries and complaints; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-worker, other County employees, attorneys and the general public
Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
Must be able to maintain an effective attendance record/pattern
May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
