20260302151545_Sutter Logo.jpgThe Auditor-Controller's Office has a paid internship opportunity for college students currently enrolled in an accounting program.
This internship will begin in May and end in August 2026. Working 20-40 hours per week.

Unofficial Transcripts must be provided. Only applicants that attach their unofficial transcripts will be considered. 

Under close supervision, performs a variety of work assignments that are in alignment with the intern’s area of study and/or career interest. This classification is designed to provide individuals the opportunity to receive training and perform routine tasks relative to the assignment for which they are training and to gain valuable hands-on experience in public service.

Position Duties

  1. Performs technical accounting tasks in maintaining fiscal records and other reports, including preparing and posting journal and ledger entries.  One or more of the following general disciplines may be involved: accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, general ledger, and/or payroll.
  2. Receives, processes and disburses revenues.
  3. Prepares bank deposits and reconciles bank statements.
  4. Maintains complex accounts and ledgers.
  5. Maintains departmental files and records.
  6. Responds to requests for information or assistance and coordinates accounting activities with other County departments.
  7. Establishes new accounts and funds as needed.
  8. Assists in the preparation, including statistical typing, of budgets, financial statements, schedules, and other statistical and financial reports.
  9. Identifies and resolves problems and inconsistencies, determines corrective entries to maintain accounting controls.
  10. Audits reports and statements to assure accuracy and completion.
  11. Prepares reports allocating overhead and support service costs among programs.
  12. May research civil codes and process legal documents and permits.
  13. Performs related duties as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF MARGINAL DUTIES
  1. Answers telephone takes messages and/or directs calls as appropriate.
  2. Supports the routine duties of accountants and other related work as needed.
  3. May be tasked with performing specialized accounting technical duties for special programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of:
Standard office equipment and software programs (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook); effective customer services principles and techniques.

Ability to:
Accept and benefit from training; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; operate standard office equipment and utilize various computer software programs; work effectively in a team environment; organize work and set priorities to complete assignments in a timely manner; learn from on-the-job training; take initiative to provide effective service.

Education and Experience:
Education and experience requirements shall be job-related and determined based on assignment.

Other Qualifications

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work requirements:
Requires the ability to exert a small amount of physical effort in sedentary to light work involving moving from one area of the office to another.

Disaster Service Workers:
All Sutter County employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to perform certain emergency services at the direction of the department and/or County.

License or Certificate:
This classification may require a valid California driver’s license.
