The Babcock & Wilcox Company (NYSE: BW) is a leader in energy and environmental products and services for power and industrial markets worldwide. Our headquarters in Akron, Ohio is currently seeking an Intern/Co-op to join our Accounting & Finance team. The summer internship will provide an educational, hands-on experience to current students pursuing careers in Accounting or Finance.

This is a full-time (40 hours per week) summer internship in Akron, Ohio. Interested candidates will be expected to reside within a 50-mile radius of Akron for the duration of the internship.

  • Provide support to the Corporate Accounting, Tax, and Treasury departments

  • Assist with data mining and canvassing activities, including gathering, validating, and organizing financial and operational data from internal systems and supporting documentation

  • Review general ledger accounts, create and organize account reconciliations, ensure accurate data entry

  • Analyze accounts, identify issues and provide support documentation to management

  • Support internal and external audit requests

  • Support process maintenance in ERP system as needed

  • Follow defined processes and controls while learning best practices in accounting operations

  • Other projects and/or task as assigned as part of the internship experience


  • Currently enrolled in an accredited two or four-year program, working towards a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field

  • Complete core courses in financing and accounting, intermediate accounting and cost accounting, preferred

  • Current GPA of 3.0 or higher, preferred

  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, preferred

  • Capacity to handle confidential information

  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills

  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently with a sense of urgency and enthusiasm

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn

  • U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the U.S.
