About this role
The Accounting Intern is responsible for providing administrative and accounting support to the construction office team. This internship offers hands-on experience across multiple accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and payroll, within a dynamic heavy civil construction environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated student to build practical skills, gain real-world accounting experience, and grow alongside an experienced finance team. This position works approximately 25–35 hours per week and reports to the Controller of Construction Operations.

Roles and Responsibilities:
Including but not limited to the list below.
- Support multiple areas of accounting management including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and billing.
- Assist in the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with company policies and established best practices.
- Manage journal entries and invoices, and prepare and reconcile accounts for monthly or annual closing.
- Assist with payroll tracking and submittal.
- Maintain and keep up-to-date vendor packets and contract records with leaders and vendors.
- Compile data required for reports.
- Update information in the company database.
- Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by supervisors.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, coursework toward an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- Those with an education and/or work-related credential from a secondary or post-secondary educational system will be given preferred interview status (Precision Exams, NOCTE, etc.).
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to type 40 words per minute.
- Strong attention to detail with good analytical and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to identify potential issues proactively and problem-solve effectively.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and prioritize duties.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Display a willingness to adapt, learn, and grow according to the needs of the company.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to get to and from work.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to sit, type, and perform computer work for extended periods of time.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for computer entry.
- Able to see, talk, hear, stand, and walk.
- Able to perform occasional bending, lifting, and reaching.
- Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
