About this role

What We're Looking For: 

Barge Design Solutions is looking for a skilled, focused Accounting Intern to support the Accounting Department of a tenured, growth focused engineering firm with the full cycle monthly accounting process including treasury, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger transactions, monthly reconciliations, project accounting, tax and business license management and comparative analysis.

We are looking for someone who likes to be challenged with growth opportunities through direct experience, job shadowing of team members, and being a part of a team with a mindset of excellence and collaboration.  

Responsibilities and Learning Opportunities: 

Treasury 

  • Assist with daily reconciliation of cash receipts and bank deposits. 
  • Review monthly bank activity and general ledger for accurate reporting. 
  • Review wire and ACH payment activity. 
  • Learn best practices of corporate treasury management and requirements for daily review and reporting.

Accounts Receivable 

  •  Partner with the Accounts Receivable team to understand full client invoicing, review, and payment processes. 
  • Assist with invoice and deposit corrections resulting from client payments and cash activity. 
  • Review aged accounts receivable and understand client follow up and collection process. 

Accounts Payable 

  •  Assist Accounts Payable team with vendor setup including W-9, ACH setup, and entry in ERP system. 
  • Review weekly payment runs for accuracy.  
  • Assist with monthly lease payments and lease software input. 

General Ledger  

  •  Review monthly account reconciliations and assist with identifying corrections needed.  
  • Assist with streamlining journal entry input process and template creation. 
  • Partner with staff accountant for review and best practices 

Project Accounting 

  • Work with Project Accounting team to understand project creation cycle from assigning project numbers to setup and validation. 
  • Review IPR variance thresholds and develop understanding of project revenue and WIP recognition. 
  • Develop insight into project accounting and be a part of meetings with project management staff.  

Taxes and Licenses 

  • Collaborate with administrative team on multiple entity business license and business personal property tax annual renewals. 
  • Assist with entry of completed licenses and applications into license collection software. 

 Education & Experience Qualifications: 

Requirements: 

  •  Obtaining a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, economics, or a related field.  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel with advanced functionality including pivot tables, data extraction, and formulas.  
  • Strong verbal and written skills with proficiency in communication 
  • Ability to work independently in a fast paced, deliverables focused environment. 
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills
