This position is located at District 1-1, Northwest Georgia Public Health in Rome, Georgia.  This position is an unclassified, full-time position working 40 hours per week.  Please complete your online application with current and previous employment details and duties.

Position Duties

Under direct supervision, performs paraprofessional accounting and fiscal control functions, such as accounts payable and receivable, payroll preparation, budget monitoring or related general accounting processes.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Balances and reconciles accounting records, statements, journals, ledgers or reports
  2. Collects fees or revenues, disburses payments and posts to appropriate accounts
  3. Compiles and maintains records and files
  4. May analyze financial reports to assess compliance
  5. May apply GAAP guidelines
  6. May compile and prepare standard accounting reports
  7. May monitor individual department budgets or expenditures, and identifies budget variances
  8. Performs routine accounting, clerical, billing, and/or claims processing duties for assigned accounts Responds to inquiries to solve routine accounting problems
  9. Prepares requested materials for audits of financial data or records
  10. Processes or records financial transactions such as accounts payable and receivable, payroll, invoices, or requisitions in a ledger or computer system
  11. Provides information or interpretation to third parties such as banks, auditors, vendors and governmental entities
  12. Verifies the accuracy of information to be billed, tracks account activity, bills consumers and resolves billing inquiries
  13. Receives additional training, as required, to gain full proficiency and experience in all areas

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma/GED and two (2) years of job-related accounting or fiscal experience; or one (1) year of experience at the lower level Accounting Technician Trainee (FIT019) or position equivalent.

The DPH Commissioner and agency leaders encourage all employees to engage in regular wellness activities and to make lifestyle choices that promote health and well-being. 

The use of physical activity breaks during the workday is authorized to support this philosophy and help employees meet their wellness goals. A maximum of 30 minutes of physical activity may be allocated per workday, typically in the form of two 15-minute breaks or one 30-minute break.

DPH accepts educational credentials recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) as valid. DPH will contact educational institutions to verify degrees, diplomas, licensures, and other relevant credentials.
