About this role

The Accounting Technician supports the accounting department by performing routine financial and administrative tasks related to payroll, accounts payable, and general accounting functions. Duties include assisting with payroll processing and adjustments, reviewing timesheets and payroll reports for accuracy, processing vendor invoices and payments, maintaining vendor records, and preparing information for 1099 reporting. Additional responsibilities include assisting with account reconciliations, maintaining financial records, and supporting monthly and year end close activities. This position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to manage confidential financial and payroll information, and a solid understanding of basic accounting principles to ensure transactions are processed accurately and in accordance with organizational policies.

Qualifications:

  •  Associate’s degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in accounting functions, particularly payroll and accounts payable, preferred but not required.
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles with strong attention to detail and accuracy.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Payroll Processing Support: Assist with preparation and processing of payroll by reviewing timesheets, verifying pay codes, and helping ensure payroll data is complete and accurate before processing.
  • Payroll Review and Adjustments: Review payroll reports for discrepancies and assist with entering corrections, adjustments, and other updates to ensure employees are paid accurately.
  • Accounts Payable Processing: Receive, review, and enter vendor invoices into the accounting system, ensuring proper coding, approvals, and compliance with organizational policies.
  • Vendor Payment Processing: Assist with preparing and processing vendor payments, including checks and electronic payments, while ensuring payment schedules and internal controls are followed.
  • Vendor Account Maintenance: Maintain vendor records, assist with new vendor setup, and help prepare information required for annual 1099 reporting.
  • Account Reconciliation Support: Assist with reconciling financial accounts and supporting schedules to ensure balances are accurate and discrepancies are identified and resolved.
  • Financial Record Maintenance: Maintain organized accounting records and documentation to support payroll, accounts payable, and other financial transactions.
  • Accounting Department Support: Provide general accounting support including preparing reports, gathering information for audits, and assisting with monthly and year-end financial close activities.

 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Skilled in using computer software, including spreadsheets, word processing, and financial management applications.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and applicable regulations.
  • Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in financial records and reports.
  • Strong knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 20 pounds, such as files or office supplies.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret written materials on a computer screen or paper.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone.
  •  Requires frequent use of the computer with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
  •  Must be able to perform the primary duties and responsibilities of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. 

Compensation: 

$25.40-$35.01 DOE
