Description of Work

This is a key paraprofessional accounting role supporting financial operations within the North Central Controller’s Office, serving multiple healthcare institutions across the region. The Accounting Technician III is responsible for accounts receivable, accounts payable, and patient funds management, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant financial processing using the North Carolina Financial System (NCFS – the state’s enterprise resource planning platform), HEARTS (a patient personal funds management system), and the Cash Management Control System.

This position plays a vital part in maintaining financial integrity and operational efficiency through reconciliations, audits, fund transfers, and supplier communications. The role offers variety and impact through responsibility for both internal and external financial transactions across Central Regional Hospital, Murdoch Developmental Center, Whitaker Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility, and Wright School.

Key Duties Include:

- Process daily accounts receivable transactions including deposits, transfers, logs, and journal entries using NCFS.

- Balance the HEARTS patient accounting system with the General Ledger and manage associated records.

- Manage accounts payable workflows, including supplier statement review and contract payment reconciliation.

- Conduct quarterly and annual petty cash audits across 17+ boxes at multiple facilities.

- Enter patient fund transactions, including approved deposits and withdrawals, and generate reports.

- Prepare invoices for non-state agencies and individuals for services provided across the region.

- Process internal fund transfers between budget codes and record transactions in NCFS.

- Maintain audit-ready financial records and provide support for external audits and reporting requirements.

- Collaborate with internal staff and external vendors via phone and email to resolve financial discrepancies.

- Perform historical research, interest postings, and special financial projects as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade Range: $$37,377.00 - $65,408.00

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Documented experience performing accounts receivable tasks such as billing, journal entries, and cash deposits

  • Proven experience processing, reviewing, or reconciling invoices or supplier statements

  • Hands-on experience using financial systems or enterprise resource planning (ERP) platforms for data entry or reporting

Managers preference

  • Generalized understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  • Experience working in a large business or healthcare organization.

  • Familiarity with the HEARTS system, North Carolina Financial System (NCFS), or similar public sector financial systems
