About this role

THE POSITION

As an Administrative Officer 1 with the Department of Human Services (DHS), you take on a key role in strengthening daily operations at the Montgomery County Assistance Office (CAO). This position gives you the chance to lead clerical processes, streamline workflows, and support staff who serve clients every day. You expand your administrative skills by coordinating programs, solving challenges, and improving office procedures. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position oversees administrative and clerical functions that support income maintenance staff and office operations. It involves supervising employees, coordinating programs, and developing program operating procedures. As an Administrative Officer 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Staff Supervision: Evaluate staff performance and direct the work of clerical employees that disperse benefits 
  • Workflow Planning: Organize, assign, and oversee clerical tasks 
  • Training Oversight: Plan and oversee training for new and current clerical staff
  • Public Contact Work: Gather information, resolve concerns, and provide guidance to staff, external organizations, and the public
  • EBT Coordination: Serve as the County Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) Coordinator, manage timely disbursement of benefits, and prepare for audits
  • Facilities Management: Oversee office supplies, equipment needs, and repair or support services

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. Specific details of the telework schedule will be discussed during the interview process. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Norristown. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. 
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience in varied office management or staff work; and bachelor's degree; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.


Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • Employees who previously held regular civil service status in the job title of the position being filled are also eligible for promotion without examination.
  • The promotion without examination requirements are issued in accordance with merit system employment regulations.
  • Meritorious service is defined as (a) the absence of any discipline above the level of written reprimand during the 12 months preceding the closing date of the posting, and (b) the last regular or probationary performance evaluation showing an overall rating of satisfactory or higher.
