Job Description
Fleet Ballistic Missiles (FBM) is one of Lockheed Martin’s best-in-class Lines of Businesses that prioritizes partnership, integrity and reliability.
We are a community of engineers looking for a dependable project engineer to join our tight-knit group. The Mechanical Controls group is an organization within FBM that is responsible for the design and production support of the systems that control the missile both before and after boost. This position is for a Staff Project Engineer to lead as the Aging Project Manager in the Post Boost Control System (PBCS) IPT that both collaborates well in a team environment and has excellent communication skills. In this role, you will have numerous opportunities to represent the PBCS IPT with our Navy partner, LM leadership, and suppliers, with many opportunities for career development along the way. The PBCS IPT is responsible for the development, manufacture, and management of the PBCS which is an attitude control and propulsive subsystem controlling the missile in a phase of the flight.
As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to join our aging team focused on solid rocket motors and inert components. This team collaborates with suppliers and Navy partners to establish an aging program that focuses on establishing tests, analysis, and data analysis to established confidence and potentially extend the life of both solid rocket motors and inert components. This position will require both internal collaboration with IPT partners as well as external collaboration with customer and supplier. Technical reports, data review, and presentations are critical to establishing program priorities and communicating risk in this position. As the Aging Project Manager, you will be responsible for tracking and maintaining budget and schedule, leading a team of engineers focused on aging tasks, and leading proposal efforts (including establishing scope and proposal evaluations) for subtier suppliers. You will also serve as the primary interface for PBCS Aging for both internal, FBM-level aging teams, as well as external partners (both supplier and Navy customers).
The Aging‑Analysis Engineer provides technical expertise to assess, model, and forecast the life‑cycle performance of aircraft and system components. The role conducts trade‑studies, reliability analyses, and risk assessments to ensure that fleet assets remain operationally viable and cost‑effective throughout their service life. The engineer partners with cross‑functional teams—including reliability, maintenance, logistics, and program management—to develop data‑driven recommendations that support sustainment decisions, modernization strategies, and proactive aging‑management plans.
