About this role

Overview

RealPage is scaling the use of AI in software delivery across hundreds of engineers and dozens of business units. The Senior AI Tooling Engineer builds the scaffolding that makes that possible: the plugins, skills, agentic workflows, and automation that turn AI coding tools from a novelty into reliable, governed infrastructure embedded in how teams ship software.

This is a builder role, not an advisory one. You will design and ship the internal tooling that engineers use every day: custom Claude Code skills and slash commands, MCP server integrations to our internal systems (TFS, Azure DevOps, GitHub, Salesforce), agentic workflows that run inside CI, and the guardrails that keep all of it safe and measurable. You’ll be the person who turns “wouldn’t it be great if AI could do X” into a shipped, adopted capability.

Responsibilities

  • Build developer facing AI tooling. Author and maintain Claude Code skills, slash commands, hooks, subagents, and plugins that codify RealPage’s engineering conventions and accelerate common workflows.
  • Develop agentic workflows. Design and ship GitHub Agentic Workflows and CI triggered automation for PR review, issue triage, CI auto remediation, and code quality enforcement.
  • Integrate internal systems via MCP. Build and maintain Model Context Protocol servers and connectors that bridge AI tools to TFS, Azure DevOps, GitHub, and other internal platforms, including the TFS to GitHub mirroring patterns that bring legacy repos into modern agentic pipelines.
  • Own the scaffolding layer. Create reusable templates, project starters, CLAUDE.md and context conventions, allowlists, and onboarding tooling that let teams adopt AI tooling correctly from day one.
  • Operationalize the RPI (Research, Plan, Implement) framework. Build the tooling and instrumentation that make structured AI assisted delivery the default, and cross reference AI usage against delivery work items to surface adoption gaps.
  • Instrument and measure. Build dashboards and metrics that tie AI tool usage to delivery outcomes at the work item level, giving leadership visibility into adoption and impact.
  • Champion safe adoption. Establish guardrails, permissions models, and governance patterns so automation is secure, auditable, and trusted across business units.
  • Partner across the org. Work directly with BU champions, platform teams, and the AI CoE to identify high leverage automation opportunities and ship them.

Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong record of building developer tooling, internal platforms, or automation.
  • Hands on experience building with AI coding agents and LLM based tooling (e.g., Claude Code, Claude Agent SDK, or equivalent). Not just using them, but extending and integrating them.
  • Proficiency building integrations and automation against systems like GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps and TFS pipelines, and REST and SOAP APIs.
  • Strong scripting and programming skills (Python, TypeScript and JavaScript, or similar) and comfort working across the toolchain: CLI, CI/CD, and version control internals.
  • Experience designing reusable frameworks, scaffolding, or templates that other engineers adopt.
  • A bias toward shipping: you prototype quickly, iterate to quality, and drive adoption.

Preferred

  • Experience with the Model Context Protocol (MCP) or building tool and plugin ecosystems for AI agents.
  • Experience with GitHub Agentic Workflows or comparable CI native AI automation.
  • Familiarity with legacy to modern migration patterns (e.g., on prem TFS to GitHub) and hybrid SCM environments.
  • Background in measuring and driving engineering productivity or tooling adoption at scale.
  • Property management and proptech domain exposure.

Why This Role Matters

The engineers who win the next decade aren’t the ones who use AI tools, they’re the ones whose tools are built for them. This role builds those tools for every RealPage engineer. You’ll be at the center of the company’s shift to AI assisted delivery, with direct line of sight from the scaffolding you ship to the velocity of the entire engineering organization.
