PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Mechanic

• AC/Refrigeration Mechanics install refrigeration systems and components
• Must be able to conduct routine inspections, test and diagnose system malfunctions and repair or replace defective parts
• Perform preventative maintenance as required including the modification, cleaning, and maintenance pf systems, fittings, and related equipment.
• Recharge refrigerant systems
• Interpret blueprints and technical diagrams
• Collaborating with project managers to design the layout for a pipe system. They go over a project plan and construction blueprint to fully understand system requirements.
• Responsible for resolving system issues utilizing specialized hand/power tools in removing and replacing worn-out components. 
• Ensure operations are in accordance with building codes, policies, safety standards procedures, work control documents, and training when performing work. 
• Must be able to work at elevated heights utilizing lifts, scaffolding, and ladders.
• Use the appropriate PPE for the work being performed including full face respirators, powered air purifying respirators, typically Level C&D protective clothing, hearing protection and required fall protection.
• Report unsafe or potentially unsafe conditions to supervision and/or Facility Management.
• Work only on the systems, devices, and activities for which they are trained and authorized.

Education: 

•High School diploma or equivalent

Experience:

•Journeyman +5 years AC/Refrigeration experience 

•Completion of a United States Department of Labor-recognized apprenticeship program (proof of completion required) in the relevant craft/trade and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the relevant trade/trade OR

where one has not completed a United States Department of Labor-recognized apprenticeship program in the relevant craft/trade, a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the relevant craft/trade in an industrial and/or commercial setting.

•HVAC experience is preferred

•Preferred previous experience in a RadWorker II setting.

Prior Training or Qualifications:

•Qualification for AC/Refrigeration work is based on a combination of classroom training, formal AC/Refrigeration trade, military, college or other training, work experience and on-the-job training. Experience may be a combination of, or include formal technical related education courses, hands-on field or classroom lab work that may or may not result in licenses or certifications

•DOE L or Q security clearance or the ability to obtain the same. 

•Skills in specific job duties must be acquired through classroom and on-the-job training periods. Must have ability to pass required site training (e.g., GET/Parkworker, HAZWOPER, RWII, etc.)

•Ability to participate in physically demanding work while wearing personal protective equipment including respiratory protection. 

•Must be able to work independently and as a team member.

Functional Requirements:

The duties required to perform in this position include but are not limited to: 

•Must be able to pass a drug screen, physical, and must be able to be medically qualified to wear a respirator, wear required hearing protection and required fall protection.

•Use the appropriate PPE for the work being performed including full face respirators, powered air purifying respirators, typically Level C&D protective clothing.

•Able to lift 30 lbs., climb ladders, work at elevated surfaces, in open excavations, confined spaces, etc.

•Ability to understand environmental, safety, and health requirements applicable to work at a DOE facility.

•Work in indoor and outdoor activities in all weather conditions to include extreme heat and cold weather conditions.

•Be physically able to do considerable walking, lifting, bending, stooping, crouching, carrying, etc.

•Must be able to work in Beryllium, Mercury, and Lead contaminated facilities, and radiologically controlled environments.
