About this role
This position primarily reviews routine permit applications and permit-related operation and design submittals for applicability and completeness.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, evaluating air pollution control technologies; to develop engineering calculations and write enforceable permits for issuance in a timely manner, which are technically and procedurally accurate in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, written policies, and procedures; to provide recommendations and support for approval of plans, specifications and other value engineering documents; to provide technical support for permit-related compliance and enforcement actions by working with stakeholders (applicants, DEQ Compliance and Enforcement staff, and the public) to resolve issues efficiently, openly, fairly and consistently.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of chemical, mechanical, environmental, or civil engineering principles and practices gained through education and/or work experience and ability to apply this knowledge in evaluating permit applications and drafting enforceable, legally defensible permits
- Knowledge of environmental law and ability to read, interpret and properly apply complex policies, guidelines and regulations
- Knowledge of industrial processes and operations
- Ability to read, understand and evaluate complex permit applications and engineering analyses, permits and related correspondence
- Ability to plan and work in a team environment using strong interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Knowledge, skills and abilities in project management and personal computer operations (including word processing, spreadsheets and database management)
- Must be sensitive to public attitudes and concerns while effectively carrying out the agency mission
- Other technical competencies may include chemistry, statistics, environmental modeling, and air pollution control
- A combination of education/coursework, training and/or experience in engineering and/or physical science demonstrating an equivalent technical background.
