About this role
The 2026 ATSG Summer Internship Program is a structured 10-week initiative beginning on May 26th designed to provide college students with hands-on experience across ATSG and its subsidiary companies. While some positions may be listed under specific ATSG business units, all internships are part of our company-wide program, offering a unified experience that includes professional development, mentorship, and networking opportunities. Description:
- The Software Engineering Co-Op supports aircraft flight data analysis initiatives to improve engineering insight and operational decision-making. Under the direction of an Engineer or Manager, the Co-Op will help collect, organize, and analyze flight and operational datasets to identify trends, performance indicators, and potential anomalies.
- This role also supports continuous improvement efforts through the development of software-based tools such as dashboards, automated reports, and workflow automations that reduce manual effort and improve data visibility and quality.
- The Co-Op may contribute to AI-enabled process improvements by assisting with prototype development, data preparation, model evaluation, and internal tools that improve access to engineering information and accelerate analysis.
Required Job Skills:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Associate’s program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline
- Experience with coding languages such as Python and VBA.
- Familiarity with developer tools such as GitHub and an IDE (for example, PyCharm)
- Fundamental understanding of software development concepts (data structures, debugging, version control, and basic testing practices)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams)
- Strong written communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to document work clearly for repeatable use
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment, accept coaching and feedback, and manage assigned tasks to completion
Preferred Job Skills:
- Experience building process improvement tools (automation scripts, dashboards, small apps, API integrations, or Excel/VBA tools)
- Experience working with datasets (cleaning, transforming, validating, and summarizing data); familiarity with SQL
- Familiarity with Python data/analytics libraries (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn)
- Exposure to flight or operational data analysis (time series, trend analysis, anomaly detection, KPI development)
- Exposure to AI/ML or retrieval-based solutions (model evaluation, embeddings, vector databases, RAG-style prototypes)
- Familiarity with reporting/visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau) and preference for aviation-related experience or technical documentation experience
- Prefer prior experience working with aircraft or aircraft components.
- Prefer prior experience creating engineering drawings.
Physical Requirements:
- Occasional work in adverse weather
- Stand, sit or work at a computer for long periods of time
- Climb stairs and ladders as needed
- Ability to stoop, bend, and crawl as required
- Wear PPE and hearing protection as required
- Occasional lifting of various weights up to 50 lbs.
