About this role

Sony Corporation of America currently has an opening for an Applied Research Intern in our U.S. Research Center located in San Jose, CA. This position is responsible for research and development in the area of 3D data compression, machine learning, computer vision, computer graphics, and image/video processing with emphasis on innovation for advancing the state-of-the-art technology. Focus includes but not limited to contribution in the International Standards Bodies for the development of next generation 3D data processing and compression technologies

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Research background in the area of 3D/2D compression, machine learning, computer vision, computer graphics, or image/video processing
  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills
  • Good familiarity with C++ and Python programming languages
  • Familiarity with 3D codec standards, such as the international standards for point cloud compression (V-PCC and G-PCC), is a plus
  • Working experience with state-of-the-art 3D representations, such as Gaussian Splats, is a plus
  • Working experience with current state-of-the-art research topics on machine leaning tools for 3D computer vision and/or compression applications is a plus
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a team environment
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Publication record
  • Knowledge of video and 3D data compression
  • All candidates must be authorized to work in the USA
