The Eligibility Specialist Lead Worker, in conjunction with the Family Independence Manager or Assistance Payments Supervisor, will instruct staff in ongoing case maintenance skills; in the determination of eligibility for Food Assistance, child day care, medical benefits, State Disability Assistance, and SER; including appropriate referrals to community services. This position will also be responsible for reading cases of employees who determine and maintain eligibility.

Required Education and Experience

Education
Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits).

Experience
Three years of experience equivalent to an Assistance Payments Worker, including one year equivalent to an Assistance Payments Worker E10;

OR

Three years equivalent to a Migrant Program Worker, including one year equivalent to a Migrant Program WorkerE10;

OR

Three years of experience equivalent to a Family Independence Specialist, including one year equivalent to a Family Independence Specialist P11.

Alternate Education and Experience

Four years of administrative support experience in a human services or office setting, including two years equivalent to the experienced (E7) level, may be substituted for the education requirement.

Completion of one year of college (30 semester or 45 term credits) and three years of administrative support experience in a human services or office setting, including one year equivalent to the experienced (E7) level, may be substituted for the education
requirement.

Three years of Home Aide experience, including one year equivalent to a Home Aide E8, may be substituted for the education requirement.

Additional Requirements and Information

This position is for MDHHS employees only.This posting is not for an appointment but to fill a temporary, Working Out of Class (WOC) assignment.  Initial duration-(07/2026 to 09/2026) Please note, WOC assignments are eligible for extension up to 26 pay periods and is subject to end with little to no notice, as needed.

The physical location of this position is 41227 Mound Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48314. Based on operational needs and within established limits, remote work and alternate or hybrid work schedule requests for this position may be considered. Selected candidates who have been approved to work remotely or a hybrid schedule must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.

Vacation and Sick Leave: Eligible full-time employees receive between 15 and 35 personal days and 13 sick days per year that may be rolled over to the following year if not used. Eligible employees also receive an additional day each year for community service or school functions. 
 
Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees can take 12 weeks of paid leave immediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child. 
 
Paid Holidays: Eligible employees receive 13 or 14 paid holidays each year including New Year’s Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Day.
