About the Department

About Securities
Under limited supervision, performs professional legal work for the State, its subdivisions, and officials. Assigned to the Securities Section as Assistant Attorney General.
  • Represents the Securities and Money Services Sections in the investigative stages of securities and money services cases.
  • Following the investigation, make recommendations regarding the appropriate resolution of assigned cases.
  • Prepares pleadings related to assigned cases.
  • Successfully negotiates assigned cases.
  • Represent the Securities and Money Services Sections in the trial or hearing and appellate phases of assigned cases.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Division Director or the Attorney General.

Position Duties

A Juris Doctorate Degree and at least 5 years of experience as a practicing attorney. 
Necessary Requirement: Must be a member and in good standing with the SC Bar. Must satisfy Rule 403 requirements. 

Additional Requirements:

  • Position may be required to travel to court and transport files. 
  • Some travel is required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the laws of South Carolina. Knowledge of general case, statutory, and common law. 
  • Knowledge of judicial and quasi-judicial procedures and rules of guidance. 
  • Ability to interpret and apply laws in court decisions. 
  • Ability to analyze facts, evidence, and legal instruments. 
  • Ability to express conclusions and arguments clearly and logically. 
  • Ability to plan and direct the activities of a legal staff.
