DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Supervises all office functions to ensure office is adequately manned and each day’s work is completed. Provides assistance and code interpretations to the public, contractors, professionals and other sections. Assists the Division Manager in providing code training for the inspection staff. Helps establish inspection policies and procedures. Acts in the capacity of the Division Manager in his/her absence. Maintains section files and records. Conducts onsite inspections to check for code compliance and violations. Evaluates and prepares budget recommendations. Oversees time and attendance in Kronos. Performs other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters or records boxes (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis.

This is a Department of Public Works & Engineering Emergency Management position at the Tier II Level.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires an Associate's degree in a field closely related to the area of inspection to be performed; or a high school diploma/GED and certification/licensing in a technical specialty program of over 18 months in the area of inspection to be performed. May require a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Seven years of journey level experience closely related to the area of inspection to be performed, whether in the building trades, heavy construction, inspection or water quality control, are required. Two years of this experience must be in a supervisory capacity

A Bachelor's degree in a field closely related to the area of inspection to be performed may be substituted for the education requirement and two years of the experience requirement.

 License: Plumbing inspectors must be licensed by the State Board of Plumbing Examiners. City of Houston technical licenses may be required. 

MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

Must have valid Texas Driver’s License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (A.P. 2-2).
