Position Summary:

As an Assistant Coach for NJIT's intercollegiate Men's & Women’s Cross Country/Track & Field teams, this function finds the incumbent responsible for assisting the Head Coach in the proper and overall management of the Track & Cross Country  programs. To accomplish this role, responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

Essential Functions:

1. Coaching Activities: This function finds the incumbent providing a full array of services related to the Cross Country Track & Field Program. By way of illustration and not limitation, this function:

  • Assists in organizing, preparing, and conducting individual and team practices, training and competition with a special emphasis with the distance runners. 

  • Assists in the identification and recruitment of prospective student-athletes for the intercollegiate  Men's & Women’s Cross Country Track & Field program, in accordance with NCAA rules, regulations, guidelines and standards. 

  • Assist in  monitoring distance training and practice sessions, and  ensuring that all appropriate safety guidelines and standards are maintained.  Provide assistance in the coordination and administration of the program as required 
     

2. NCAA Compliance: Knowledge of and adherence to all applicable NCAA rules, regulations, bylaws, constitutions and related university rules, regulations and policies. Performs other duties as assigned. 

3. Additional Functions:  

  • Maintain current health care certifications. (First aid, CPR/AED).  

  • Must be available for early morning training sessions and some weekends.

Pre-Requisite Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree is required;

  • Minimum of 3 years of coaching experience on the club or intercollegiate level; with a specialty in one of the following areas: long distance & middle distance. 

  • Strong interpersonal, communication skills.

  • Demonstrated competitive coaching skills in the area of sporting specialty.

  • Knowledge of applicable team or individual sport and its playing rules.

  • Must possess the ability to foster a cooperative environment.

  • Must have knowledge of NCAA student-athlete academic eligibility requirements.

  • Knowledge of NCAA recruiting rules.

  • Must have the ability to understand, follow and enforce safety procedures.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. 

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.  

  • CPR/AED and First-aid certified. 

Compensation:

This is a 9-month part-time position. Salary is $7,500

 

At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, or other items.
