Construction portfolio consists of projects located within other Commonwealth Agency facilities such as Department of Corrections (Correctional Institutions), Department of Human Services (State Hospital and Center Facilities), Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (Universities), Department of Military & Veterans Affairs (Readiness Center and Veterans' Hospital), Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (Flood Control, State Parks), and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (Headquarter Building). 


This position is home headquartered; however, daily travel to job sites in the following North Central Region counties is required: Bedford, Blair, Cameron, Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk, Fulton, Huntingdon, Juniata, Lycoming, McKean, Mifflin, Montour, Northumberland, Perry, Potter, Snyder, Tioga, or Union. In addition, you may occasionally be asked to travel to the following counties outside of the North Central Region: Bradford, Cambria, Columbia, Cumberland, Dauphin, Forest, Franklin, Indiana, Jefferson, Schuylkill, Somerset, Sullivan, and Warren. 


Candidate must reside in or be willing to relocate prior to employment to Huntingdon, Juniata, Mifflin, Perry, or Snyder County.


Position Duties

In this Assistant Construction Project Coordinator role, you will assist in managing capital improvement projects for Commonwealth Agencies within DGS' North Central Region. Work involves travelling to liaise with internal and external stakeholders as well as oversee construction work to ensure projects stay organized, safe, and on schedule. Your work will include the following duties: 


  • Coordinate Projects: Oversee construction activities to support progress and solve problems; conduct job conferences
  • Technical Guidance: Provide advice and direction to outside professionals and contractors on construction matters
  • Facilitate Adaptability: Negotiate and approve change orders up to a specific limit; represent the Department in claims/disputes
  • Ensure Compliance: Monitor project progress to ensure adherence to project schedules and compliance with approved plans, specs, general conditions, laws, regulations, and procedures
  • Documentation Management: Maintain technical and administrative records, generate various documents and reports, and ensure accuracy using both standard office and specialized construction computer software
  • Professional Communication: Ensure effective and efficient customer care to all client agencies and stakeholders

Work Schedule and Additional Information: 

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • This position is home headquartered; however, daily travel to construction projects throughout the North Central Region is required. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. 
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $60,714.00 (before taxes).

Minimum Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of professional building construction administration, construction planning, or construction project engineering experience for renovations and new construction of commercial, institutional, or educational buildings; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.


Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession and maintenance of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C driver’s license or equivalent.


Additional Requirements:

  • You must reside in or be willing to relocate prior to employment to Huntingdon, Juniata, Mifflin, Perry, or Snyder County. 
  • You must be willing and able to travel to construction sites in Bedford, Blair, Cameron, Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk, Fulton, Huntingdon, Juniata, Lycoming, McKean, Mifflin, Montour, Northumberland, Perry, Potter, Snyder, Tioga, and Union counties in the North Central Region.
  • You must be willing and able to travel to the following counties outside of the North Central Region if necessary for work: Bradford, Cambria, Columbia, Cumberland, Dauphin, Forest, Franklin, Indiana, Jefferson, Schuylkill, Somerset, Sullivan, and Warren.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.


Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • On-site renovation and new construction experience at commercial, institutional, and educational buildings
  • Working knowledge of Critical Path Method (CPM) construction schedules
  • Previous work experience on construction projects that utilized separate multiple Prime Contractors to perform the work
  • Experience writing, generating correspondence to contractors, design professionals, and/or clients regarding project issues, conditions, or potential actions
  • Experience conducting construction meetings
  • Experience reviewing or negotiating construction change orders
  • Microsoft Office Suite and/or Construction Management Software experience
