Under the general supervision of the Dean of Students, the Assistant Director of Student Services provides direct supervision, oversight and guidance to Residential Life Coordinators in matters relative to health and safety, discipline, and personal/social problems for the residential life program of the SC Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities. The job duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Manages a team of Residential Life Coordinators. Provides direct supervision, training and evaluation for the assigned team. In the absence of the Dean of Students and Associate Director of Residential Life, assumes leadership for the department.
  • Provides oversight, counseling and guidance to students to promote holistic student development. Collects, maintains and disseminates student data on student success. Communicates and collaborates with campus stakeholders to develop plans for success.
  • Helps implement a student curriculum to include educational programming and recreational events. Helps staff with their individual professional development. Regularly communicates with the Dean of Students in regard to both staff and student concerns.
  • Supervises procedures and events, directs committee work and plans staff development.
  • Develops and implements procedures to ensure student safety. Collaborates with campus units to ensure compliance with external laws and regulations, including DHEC regulations, fire code regulations, and attendance regulations.
  • Helps develop and implement the school's orientation for both residential and summer programs, to include helping administer room assignments.
  • Coordinates and supports parent communications. Serves as a liaison with parents, prospective students and the general public.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Position Duties

A bachelor's degree and experience in student services programs.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of policies and procedures affecting the assigned program area. Knowledge of basic principles and theories of student development and educational administration.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, faculty/staff and the general public. Ability to identify, develop, and implement programs and activities that will benefit the campus community.
  • Ability to supervise and evaluate personnel. Must be able to hear and speak audibly, walk and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be able to work variable hours and shifts.

Minimum Qualifications

A master's degree in student service affairs or related field with 3-5 years' experience.
