Position Purpose:
The Assistant General Manager (AGM) is responsible for providing effective leadership and support within a highly complex 600k sq ft Stock/Flow Centre (SFC) / Flatbed Delivery Centre (FDC). Reporting to the AGM will be the Operations Managers. AGM will partner with all of the leadership team members to develop and cascade vision, mission, and operational strategies. The AGM is responsible for building a high performance work culture that consistently delivers exceptional customer service in a safe and efficient manner. Position Responsibilities:
- Evaluate operational effectiveness and recommend alternatives for work methods, procedures, controls and staffing to achieve goals. Ensure site layout is optimally aligned for maximum Safety and efficiency
- Provide recommendations to GM with the DC's operational, people and service objectives. Drive continuous improvement. Lead team to anticipate and solve problems and plan for events
- Ensures Customer First priority are maintained with the team. Maintain metrics for on time delivery
- Ensures efficient use of operational assets such as WMS and related equipment and safety in facility ops
- Coach, train, and develop team (e.g. written evaluation) on the job performance feedback.
- Create and maintain a “great place to work” through open, honest leadership and communication guided by Home Depots values
- Ensure a safe work culture, follow/enforces safety policies and procedures - monitor DC safety, physical security and metrics and process; safety role model; hold associates to a high safety standard. Maintain Safe loading standard to ensure safe and efficient offload at job site
- Demonstrate responsible, ethical and honest behavior while leading by example; model the desired values of Home Depot
- Champion and create a customer-focused environment where excellent service is provided to all Customers
- React quickly and appropriately to problems and engage in joint problem-solving across departments; ensure issues are addressed timely to ensure customer’s satisfaction . Expedite out of stock or damages to support customer experience. Manage rush request for the Pro Customer
- Motivate team on important objectives; creates a sense of urgency and maintains accountability
- Inspire and influence others by sharing information; communicate clearly with all; keep others informed and listen carefully to input and feedback
- Demonstrate understanding of Home Depot and how actions affect the success of the organization
- Develop collaboration with Pro/Outside and customer account teams to ensure customer friendly loading practices. Ensure inventory transfers to support the customer. Work with delivery operations to ensure delivery best practice
- Seek knowledge about the strengths and weaknesses of self and team; provide growth opportunity and leverages available resources for learning and development
- Maintains a positive attitude during high level of stress and ambiguity; work with others to determine the critical priorities
Knowledge/Experience Required:
- Must fulfill minimum time-in-position (1 year) and performance management code requirements (M+).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain, Business or Engineering preferred
- PLog or CITT designation would be an asset
- Minimum of 3 years of experience managing distribution operations preferably in the retail, consumer or automobile sectors
- Experience managing multiple pick-pack processes is a definite asset
- Experience with SAP ERP or Manhattan WMS
- Previous experience with managing one or more new start-up operations a definite asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Ability to work flexible shifts and hours including weekends and holidays.
- May require overnight travel 5% to 10% of the time however there will be extensive travel to the United States for training purposes
