ASSOCIATE CYBERSECURITY ENGINEER

Central Office  Office of Technology and Information Services

 

Under general supervision of the Enterprise Infrastructure and Operations Team Leader, assists in the development and implementation of security policies, procedures, and best practices concerning the overall security of the organization’s network infrastructure and enterprise data. Assists with firewall configuration, maintenance, monitoring, and other various network security measures.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY

INCLUDE

Assists with the design, development, integration, testing, and operation of policies and products to secure HCPS’ computing infrastructure.

Assists with the maintenance of technical documentation and network diagrams (including Visio) to reflect the current network and security infrastructure.

Researches, recommends, and documents logical/physical solutions to prevent, detect, and correct system vulnerabilities.

Monitors information system activity for possible intrusions and attacks; performing active threat hunting daily; prepares status reports on security matters, escalating issues as necessary; studies the proliferation of viruses.

Assists with the implementation, maintenance, and management of network security products including next generation firewalls, VPNs, web content filters, and other devices under the guidance of senior engineers.

Engages with continual management and improvement of network security practices, cloud security, and development of new security-based technologies.

Assists in vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to identify weaknesses.

Assists with security administration activities, such as access control and password maintenance associated with day-to-day operational and enterprise level information security issues.

Works closely with HCPS Network Administrators to configure and secure Cloud applications such as Microsoft 365, Oracle, and Canvas.

Participates in emergency response and off-peak maintenance/upgrade activities as required.

Possesses and utilizes project management skills and works in a team development environment.

Provides technical training to professional and support staff as required. Attends professional development and courses as required.

Performs other work-related duties as assigned.


 

SALARY

 

This is a full-time twelve-month position. Salary range based on the FY 2025-2026 AHCATSP (Grade D) Salary Schedule for Non-Certificated, Technical and Supervisory Personnel. Starting Salary: $93,850– Maximum Earnings Potential $123,833.

FLSA: Exempt

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related STEM field.

At least one year of experience in IP network architecture and secure network architecture. Security+, CCNA, or CISSP certifications preferred.

Knowledge of the TCP/IP protocol suite and the ability to perform troubleshooting of networks and associated devices. Understanding of network security including Intrusion Detection, Firewalls, DMZ, Routers, VPNs, and common network level vulnerabilities.

Knowledge of next generation firewalls, VPN technologies, SSL/certificate management, vulnerability assessment tools, cloud app security and log collection review and management..

Knowledge with network, ports, protocols, Windows/Unix/Linux operating systems.

Knowledge of information security standards, rules, and regulations related to information security and data confidentiality.

Knowledge of common probing and attack methods, network/service discovery, system auditing, viruses, and worms.

Excellent system analysis techniques and analytical skills required.

Proactive self-starter with good project management skills; able to work independently as well as within a team.

Must be well organized, possess strong verbal/written communication skills, and technical design skills.

Able to work varying hours and shifts and respond to emergency situations as required.
