Eli Lilly's Cardiometabolic Research Therapeutic Area is advancing a diverse portfolio of biologic, small molecule, and genetic therapeutics for obesity and related metabolic disorders. We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist to join our Diabetes Research organization. This individual will contribute to the discovery and development of novel therapeutics for type 1 diabetes, applying a strong foundation in disease biology alongside innovative experimental approaches. The successful candidate will play a key role in generating high-quality data to support target validation and therapeutic discovery efforts.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement cell-based and molecular biology assays, including cell viability, ELISA, and functional assays, to support ongoing discovery programs
• Process ex vivo tissue samples and perform immunofluorescence analysis to characterize tissue and cellular phenotypes
• Culture and manipulate stem cell-derived islets, including preparation of cell pellets for in vivo studies
• Record, analyze, and interpret experimental data, maintaining accurate and detailed documentation in accordance with laboratory notebook standards
• Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols, standard operating procedures, and company policies
• Communicate findings effectively through written reports and oral presentations to cross-functional project teams
• Collaborate closely with scientists across teams to advance research objectives in a fast-paced, matrixed environment

Basic Qualifications

• B.S. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a related scientific field
• 0-3+ years of industry work experience

Additional Preferences

• Demonstrated laboratory skills, including aseptic technique
• Hands-on experience with tissue culture and cell-based/molecular biology assays
• Experience with ELISA, immunofluorescence, and Cryosectioning techniques
• Experience with in vivo models of diabetes and metabolic disease
• Experience operating a BOND automated stainer
• Experience with slide scanning and digital image analysis
• Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., GraphPad Prism, Microsoft Excel)
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking capabilities
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team-based research environment
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts clearly and concisely
