Chenega Services and Federal Solutions, LLC., a Chenega Professional Services’ company, is looking for a Bacteriology Technician to support bacteriology research programs focused on bacterial virulence, vaccine development, monoclonal antibody identification, animal modeling, immunology, microbiology, and molecular biology. The position performs laboratory testing, animal research support activities, microbiological and immunological assays, molecular biology procedures, data collection and analysis, inventory management, laboratory operations, and technical reporting in support of bacteriology research programs. The incumbent assists Principal Investigators and research staff with study execution, laboratory procedures, scientific documentation, and research activities conducted in BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratory environments while maintaining compliance with applicable laboratory, biosafety, and operational requirements.

  • Assist Lead Investigators and Principal Investigators with molecular microbiological experiments supporting bacterial virulence research and associated animal protocols.
  • Perform Opsonic Adherence assays supporting evaluation of animal sera and bacterial interactions.
  • Conduct ELISA testing supporting vaccine strategy, monoclonal antibody identification, and animal modeling programs.
  • Prepare laboratory reagents, media, and solutions required for bacteriology research activities.
  • Isolate and purify plasmid DNA specimens and perform related molecular biology procedures.
  • Perform FITC labeling and counting procedures supporting bacteriology studies.
  • Order and maintain laboratory supplies, equipment, and associated inventory.
  • Assist with preparation and presentation of scientific data, study findings, technical reports, graphs, and research updates.
  • Perform immunological assays and antibody determinations.
  • Conduct ELISA testing on mouse, nonhuman primate, and human serum samples.
  • Perform flow cytometry analysis to evaluate cellular distribution and intracellular cytokine expression.
  • Conduct cell biology, biochemical, and microbiological laboratory procedures including protein gel electrophoresis, western blotting, cell culture support, and microbiological media preparation.
  • Organize, maintain, and document research data generated from microbiological and immunological studies.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and manage accountable laboratory property and hand receipt items.
  • Assist with animal challenge studies, bacterial challenge preparations, and pathogenesis research activities.
  • Support animal research activities including animal observations, injections, blood collections, gavage procedures, necropsies, and tissue burden studies.
  • Perform Luminex cytokine analyses, macrophage phagocytosis assays, and related immunological testing.
  • Conduct DNA chromosomal preparations, PCR analyses, agar gel analysis, cloning procedures, sequencing reactions, and plasmid preparation activities.
  • Prepare microbiological media and perform BSL-3 live/dead assays.
  • Coordinate procurement activities and laboratory equipment orders.
  • Review relevant scientific literature and support ongoing research initiatives.
  • Serve as a training representative for BSL-2 skills when assigned.
  • Perform BSAT inventory management and equipment inventory activities.
  • Support laboratory management functions including safety activities, chemical inventory management, and operational support.
  • Assist in preparation and execution of animal experiments conducted in BSL-3 environments.
  • Assist in preparing SOPs, manuscripts, technical reports, and scientific presentations.
  • Present research findings in written and oral formats and support conference participation when required.
  • Prepare and submit monthly bacteriology technical support reports documenting methods, data, and analyses.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Typically requires five (5) to seven (7) years of related laboratory experience consistent with a Laboratory Technician 4 labor category.
  • CS-PRP enrollment is required and shall be held and maintained IAW the provisions in this contract and all applicable regulations. 
  •  BPRP enrollment is required and shall be held and maintained IAW the provisions in this contract and all applicable regulations.
  • Experience performing laboratory procedures, testing, research activities, and scientific support functions in bacteriology, microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, cell biology, or related scientific disciplines.
  • Experience independently performing laboratory procedures and scientific protocols.
  • Experience supporting molecular microbiology, immunology, and laboratory animal research activities.
  • Experience collecting, documenting, analyzing, and maintaining laboratory and research data.
  • Experience supporting laboratory operations, laboratory equipment maintenance, inventory management, and biosafety requirements.
  • Ability to read, understand, and execute laboratory techniques and procedures in accordance with established quality standards, SOPs, and research requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively in BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratory environments.
  • Successfully pass background and drug screening

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting bacteriology, microbiology, immunology, infectious disease, or biodefense research programs.
  • Experience performing ELISA, flow cytometry, Luminex, PCR, western blotting, and molecular biology techniques.
  • Experience supporting laboratory animal studies, animal challenge models, necropsies, and biological sample collection.
  • Experience with plasmid preparation, DNA purification, cloning, sequencing, and related molecular biology procedures.
  • Experience supporting BSL-3 laboratory operations.
  • Experience preparing scientific reports, SOPs, manuscripts, and research presentations.
  • Experience supporting laboratory inventories, equipment management, and laboratory compliance activities.
  • Experience training laboratory personnel or serving as a laboratory skills representative.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of bacteriology, microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, and laboratory research methodologies.
  • Knowledge of ELISA, flow cytometry, Luminex analysis, PCR, cloning, sequencing, plasmid preparation, and related laboratory techniques.
  • Knowledge of laboratory animal research procedures and associated laboratory support activities.
  • Knowledge of laboratory inventory management, equipment maintenance, biosafety practices, and quality standards.
  • Knowledge of laboratory documentation, technical reporting, data management, and scientific recordkeeping requirements.
  • Ability to independently execute laboratory procedures, testing activities, and scientific protocols with limited supervision.
  • Ability to organize, analyze, maintain, and report scientific and laboratory data.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports, presentations, graphs, SOPs, and supporting scientific documentation.
  • Ability to assist with training activities and provide guidance on laboratory procedures and BSL-2 laboratory skills.
  • Ability to maintain laboratory equipment, inventories, and operational readiness.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary research teams.
  • Ability to support multiple research projects while maintaining quality, safety, and compliance requirements.
