Come create chemistry with us!

BASF’s Agricultural Solutions division connects innovation, customers, partners and agricultural experts and integrates sustainability criteria into all business decisions. We help farmers deliver the best possible outcomes, working to achieve the balance between economic, environmental and social value creation for sustainable and efficient agriculture.

In this role, you will join an interdisciplinary team focused on the discovery of novel, selective and safe insecticides.  Specifically, you will be a member of the Seed, Soil and Systemicity Team, focusing on biological performance of agrochemicals in different matrixes such as insects, soil, and/or plants.

We expect you to be dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge while maintaining the highest level of laboratory safety for self and colleagues.  This is an excellent opportunity for you to demonstrate your extensive laboratory experience. This role requires that you be willing to handle live insects and compounds of unknown toxicity.

As a Biology Research Scientist - Research Triangle Park, NC, you create chemistry by...

  • Conducting experiments to characterize the biological performance of small molecules against insects across matrices (plants, soil, seeds, etc.) following established protocols and experimental designs
  • Preparing formal written research reports and presentations that summarize methods, results, and interpretations for project teams and stakeholders
  • Establishing, maintaining, and managing laboratory and field trial workflows from experiment setup through data collection, analysis, and sample handling
  • Collaborating with R&D teams and external partners, coordinating activities, sharing findings, and integrating results into broader project plans
  • Proposing and implementing optimizations to protocols and assays to improve efficiency, reduce data turnaround time, and increase safety and reproducibility
  • Maintaining rigorous data quality and documentation to support decision-making and next-step project progression
  • Ensuring compliance with safety procedures and risk controls, completing required training, and applying process-safety knowledge for handling hazardous materials and routine operations
  • Communicating results clearly and promptly, both verbally and in writing, to project managers and cross-functional teams

If you...

  • Hold a BS or MS in Toxicology, Biology, Entomology, Crop Protection, or a closely related discipline and 1-3 years' experience. Have experience characterizing the biological performance of small molecules against insects across matrices (plants, soil, seeds, etc.) and preparing formal research reports and presentations (highly desirable)
  • Can reliably follow protocols and implement experimental designs with minimal supervision
  • Take initiative to optimize protocols, develop more efficient assays, and shorten data-analysis timelines while preserving data quality and safety
  • Apply strong scientific rigor, attention to detail, and a systematic experimental approach to generate high-quality, reproducible data
  • Work effectively as a collaborator and team player, interfacing with multiple R&D groups
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and clear verbal and written communication to convey results across project teams
  • Show a firm commitment to workplace safety, including basic process-safety knowledge (hazard categories, potential risks) and the ability to identify and assess risks in everyday operations
