JOB SUMMARY

This management-level professional position works in Clerk’s Accounting and is responsible for analyzing accounting data, preparing financial and management reports, assisting with process improvement initiatives, and supporting compliance and audit activities. The Business Analyst I works with a moderate level of independence and collaborates with accounting staff, auditors, and management to maintain financial reporting accuracy, strengthen internal controls, and enhance the efficiency of financial operations in accordance with Florida statutes, Clerk policies, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). This position manages one lead accountant position. 

STARTING SALARY: $28.82 hourly/ $59,946 annually

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES REQUIRED AFTER TRAINING 

  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles (GAAP), practices, procedures, methods, and theory.
  • Skilled at communicating effectively using verbal and written communication, including the ability to present information to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and apply policies and procedures.
  • Ability to prepare financial and statistical reports utilizing spreadsheets, charts, summaries  and written narratives.
  • Proficient with spreadsheets, reporting tools such as Oracle OTBI and Power BI, and complex financial systems.
  • Ability to independently analyze quantitative and qualitative data and develop practical, actionable recommendations. 
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines and work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to extract and work with large data sets of financial transactions. 
  • Knowledge of the Oracle Cloud Financials application. 
  • Knowledge of the OnBase document management system. 
  • Knowledge of the Odyssey Case Management system.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform one or more of the activities described below. 

  • Analyzes accounting and financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Prepares and maintains recurring and ad hoc financial, operational and management reports with minimal supervision. 
  • Develops and maintains dashboards, spreadsheets and analytical models to support decision-making and performance monitoring. 
  • Documents business processes in the accounting department using flowcharts and written procedures. 
  • Develops recommendations to improve efficiency, accuracy and timeliness of accounting processes and work products. 
  • Participates in year-end close activities, reconciliations, and preparation of audit schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Collaborates with accounting, budgeting, and information technology staff on system enhancements, data integrity initiatives, and reporting improvements. 
  • Takes a lead role in special projects related to budgeting, forecasting, performance measurement, and financial system upgrades, testing or new implementations.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of procedures, reports, and analytical methodologies.
  • Assists with gathering data and reviewing data others gather for audits and compliance checks.
  • Takes ownership of fulfilling public records requests or assigning others to complete requests.
  • Provides training as requested on accounting systems and reporting tools.
  • Communicates with departments and management as needed to resolve errors, requests, inquiries and concerns.
  • Provides timely assistance to customers and other departments as needed. 
  • Cross trains with other teams in the department as permitted.  
  • Performs other accounting duties as needed. 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Management Information Systems, or related field AND one year of relevant professional experience in a business analyst role. OR an equivalent combination of education, training and job experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted above. 

Intermediate proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, advanced formulas, data analysis tools, dashboards and visualizations, Power Query and Power Pivot. 

Strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills with a high-level attention to detail.

Able to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
