The Executive Office of Technology Services and Security (EOTSS) is the lead enterprise technology organization for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Charged with driving the ongoing alignment of business and technology across the Commonwealth’s Executive Branch, EOTSS oversees and manages the enterprise technology, digital infrastructure and services, as well as the Commonwealth Security Operations Center and an enterprise Standard Operating Environment that includes an information security and risk management framework for over 125 state agencies and over 43,000 state employees.  We directly serve our constituents by providing digital services and tools that enable taxpayers, drivers, businesses, visitors, families and other citizens to do business with the Commonwealth in a way that makes every interaction with government easier, faster, and more secure.

The Massachusetts Executive Office of Technology Services and Security (EOTSS) is seeking a motivated Business Analyst Intern to join enterprise Applications’ Team.  

The incumbent of this position performs activities related to analysis, design, testing, installation, and support applications under technology office. 

Key responsibilities of this role include understanding business owner’s needs; translating them into clear specifications; and determining viable solutions. Service excellence, a pro-active and collaborative approach to service delivery, and a strong customer focus are all essentials for this role. 

The primary work location for this role will be at One Ashburton Place Boston, Massachusetts 02108. The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 9AM to 5PM. This position is expected to follow a hybrid model of reporting to work that combines in-office workdays and work from home days as needed. 

The Summer Internship Program is a 10-week paid opportunity running from June 1 through August 7. To be eligible, applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university or be a recent graduate (May 2026 graduation date). 

All offers of employment into this position are conditional and subject to passing: a Massachusetts Criminal Background Check (CORI); a security clearance (fingerprinting) consistent with IRS and/or public safety requirements; and security training. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Partner with customers to gain a thorough understanding of business processes and develop requirements.  

  • Identify customer requirements and document according to organizational Standards. 

  • Perform Accessibility testing and ensure that products conform to organizational requirements. 

  • Perform Fit-Gap analysis and support developing viable solutions. 

  • Develop use cases, models, and supplementary specifications, using automated tools when applicable. 

  • Performing detailed and thorough testing and actively participating in walkthroughs of artifacts. 

  • Clearly and concisely communicate status of all assigned tasks to management and users according to published workflows. 

  • Respond to production application(s) problems reported through the Common Help desk. 

  • Maintain the application Knowledgebase with information and knowledge gathered. 

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document requirements and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical team members. 

  • Understanding of how to develop and execute test plans, including writing basic test cases and helping validate system functionality. 

  • Experience gathering requirements through interviews and group discussions, with the ability to ask thoughtful questions to clarify business needs. 

  • Ability to work effectively in collaborative team environments and build positive working relationships. 

  • Foundational knowledge of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and the role of a Business Analyst in each phase. 

  • Basic experience writing SQL queries to retrieve and review data for analysis and testing purposes. 

  • Familiarity with accessibility standards, mobile testing, and introductory automated testing concepts.
