PURPOSE:
The Business/Functional Analyst Intern is an opportunity that provides administrative, analytical, and project coordination support to the CareFirst Operations team. The incumbent is expected to assist with meeting coordination, requirements documentation, data analysis, progress reporting, and assigned process improvement initiatives while gaining practical experience in business analysis and project management. This role is designed for students seeking exposure to technology, healthcare payor business operations and processes and cross-functional project work and coordination.
CareFirst runs a year-round internship program. The ideal candidate is someone who can commit to work throughout the year part-time up to 15-20 hours in the Spring/Fall AND full-time 40 hours in the Summer. This is a remote position with an anticipated start date in October 2026.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Attend project, operational, and stakeholder meetings; document meeting notes, decisions, and action items.
- Maintain project trackers, status reports, and implementation schedules.
- Analyze data and prepare reports using Microsoft Excel.
- Track project tasks, risks, issues, and follow-up activities.
- Create presentations and summaries for team members and leadership.
- Coordinate communications between business partners, project teams, and stakeholders.
- Perform administrative and project-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Level/Experience: This position requires an individual working towards at least a Bachelor's degree from an accredited College or University. Junior or Senior Undergraduate student targeting majors in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Project Management or Information Systems related degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
Preferred Qualifications: Exposure and experience using intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills, business analysis, project management or technology related work. Basic understanding of databases, reporting or testing concepts.
Knowledge Skills Abilities (KSA's)
- Basic understanding of business processes and project lifecycles.
- Familiarity with data analysis and reporting concepts.
- Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills including exposure to: formulas and functions, pivot tables, filtering and sorting data and basic reporting and analysis.
- Strong organization and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to document requirements, meeting notes and procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with internal staff and external clients.
- Strong attention to detail, strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
- Must be able to work independently, as well as working with a team, to accomplish assigned tasks.
Salary Range: $19,760 - $26,000

The hire range posted is an annual rate. All intern positions will be paid hourly.
