About the Position:

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD)/CAD Mobile System Administrator in our Information Technology (IT) Division at our Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to:

• Responsible for overall management of the CAD and Mobile CAD systems.
• Ensuring systems are maintained to ensure maximum availability.
• Acting as a liaison between users, management, vendors, and other agencies to implement program changes, updates, corrections, and addresses other system issues as identified.
• Assessing, proposing, coordinating, and implementing solutions to hardware and software issues, system modifications, system enhancements, and system replacements.
• Serving as point of contact for dispatch and law enforcement users to resolve inquiries, request enhancements and technical requests.
• Handling calls for service (system problems/outages) during on-duty and off-duty hours.
• Handling budget planning, project management and implementation of new functionality from design to implementation.
• Providing DCJS complaint training programs, training documentation and manuals.
• Working with vendors and contractors to support current functionality and large-scale projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of:

• CAD system technology, including troubleshooting, hardware and software maintenance, and system analysis techniques and procedures.

Skill in:

• SQL query.
• Basic networking.
• Use of Microsoft Office Applications.

Ability in/to:

• Analyze and solve problems.
• Learn new technologies and assimilate new information quickly.
• Coordinate and participate in system analysis, design, and programming.
• Accurately identify and evaluate client software needs and requirements.
• Develop and deliver clear, concise reports.
• Produce technical reports and training documentation.
• Resolve problems and pay attention to detail.
• Present ideas and recommendations in a clear and concise manner written and orally.
• Work independently with minimal supervision.
• Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
• Interact and collaborate professionally with co-workers, users, vendors, and management.
• Experience with CAD file management, SQL query experience.
• Experience with methods and techniques of hardware and software installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with principles and methods of system testing methodologies.
• Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Additional Considerations

• Experience working as a VSP Dispatcher and/or VSP CAD Systems Tech preferred.
• Training or experience in Computer Science, Information System Management, or related technical field highly preferred.
