Description of Job
About the Position
The Crash Attenuator Operator (Equipment Operator II) position ensures safe travel for the traveling public by operating equipment and providing traffic control when CDOT responds to highway incidents. All duties are performed with safety as the primary goal and to provide essential or emergency services that ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the traveling public on state highways.
This position provides exceptional internal and external customer service, and continually learns and develops job knowledge to keep up with changes in procedures, technology, and priorities. The position must maintain operational readiness for snow events and other emergencies and may be placed on call.
Work Environment
- Primarily 4 10-hour days (Sun-Wed or Wed-Sat and either 11:30 pm to 10:00am or 2:30 pm to 1:00 am)
- May be eligible for shift differential pay
- Must be willing and be physically able to work in extreme temperatures (hot and cold), variable weather conditions, and at varying elevations up to 12,000 feet for long periods of time
- Required to report without delay or interruption to provide essential or emergency services to ensure health, safety, and welfare
- May be required to be on-call on a rotating basis for major events, i.e. snow storm, etc.
- Travel out of town may be required for training, meetings, and projects
- Must use, handle or expose to hazardous materials to include batteries, fuel oil, solvents, etc.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Experience Only:
- At least two (2) years of experience with vehicle operation to include one or more of the following:
- Traffic Control,
- Incident Management,
- Transportation Management,
- Emergency Management,
- Safety Management, or
- Other work related to the major duties of this position.
Conditions of Employment:
- Must complete IS 100, IS 200 and IS 700 training within 3 months of employment
- Must complete and obtain the Traffic Control Technician certification within 3 months of employment
