Abortion Care: At PPRM, we all work in abortion care. This role supports abortion care through direct clinical triage, patient education, and follow-up, ensuring timely and empathetic support to those navigating abortion services.
Ideal Candidate:
- Active AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or equivalent required
- AAPC Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC) required
- CPMA preferred
- Minimum 3 years of outpatient medical billing and coding, ideally in preventive, reproductive, or family‑planning care
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort with phone and video communication
- Strong interpersonal and relationship‑building skills
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook; ability to use Chrome and Edge
- Experience with NextGen PM & EHR preferred
- Demonstrated experience in quality review and auditing
- Strong knowledge of ICD‑10, CPT, HCPCS, and auditing practices
- Ability to meet deadlines, manage interruptions, and reprioritize
- Self‑starter with strong initiative and follow‑through
- Ability to provide effective training and coaching to licensed staff
What You'll Do:
1. Abortion Chart Review, Coding Compliance & Documentation Quality
You ensure the accuracy and compliance of abortion‑related coding and documentation through structured audit and education processes.
- Conduct comprehensive audits of abortion‑related encounters for coding accuracy, documentation completeness, and regulatory compliance
- Identify documentation deficiencies and collaborate with clinicians to improve specificity, completeness, and compliance
- Apply approved audit methodologies and coding resources to ensure accuracy and adherence to payer and regulatory requirements
- Provide structured feedback, education, and coaching to clinicians
- Review and resolve coding‑related inquiries and assist with denial resolution
- Monitor trends in documentation, coding errors, and payer denials; recommend corrective actions
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of Medicaid, commercial payer, and state program rules related to abortion services
- Develop and refine job aids, workflows, templates, and training materials
- Ensure compliant charge capture and revenue integrity for abortion‑related services
- Research and respond to coding and compliance questions from clinical and billing teams
2. Cross‑Functional Collaboration
You contribute expertise to organizational initiatives and support alignment across teams.
- Collaborate with other Planned Parenthood affiliates to share best practices
- Participate in performance improvement projects
- Contribute to Revenue Cycle Management and other committees as assigned
Salary Range: $27.87 - $35.31/hour
*Although our full pay range is included above, the budgeted hiring range for new hires is $27.87 - $31.59/hour and based on related professional experience
