The Department of Pathology at UCSF aims to achieve the highest standards in patient care, research and education. The Department provides diagnostic pathology services in a wide variety of subspecialties with highly trained subspecialists who are recognized nationally and internationally for their expertise. The Department’s research programs are diverse and interface with a wealth of basic and translational research programs that are a hallmark of UCSF. Our educational programs include a research-intensive academic residency program and fellowships in cytopathology, dermatopathology, gastrointestinal and liver pathology, gynecologic pathology, neuropathology and surgical pathology.
Under general supervision, the Clinical Administrative Assistant is responsible for performing daily clinical administrative duties in support of the Dermatopathology Services. Duties include same day receiving, organization and accessioning of tissue cases. Enter clinical and patient demographic information. Edit clinical and diagnostic information entered via auto-load and manual processes. Incumbent must maintain high levels of accuracy, productivity, thoroughness and completeness. Adhere to all department and institution procedures and protocols at all times.

60% | Yes | With a high degree of productivity, efficiency and accuracy identify and sort incoming specimens by clinical description, type of procedure, medical history and specimen site with attention to clinical complexity, their urgency, who the referring physician was, whether an electronic interface exists and the financial coverage. Enter clinical and demographic data for tissue cases. Review completeness of insurance information provided. |
35% | Yes | In a timely manner and with a high degree of accuracy, contact referring physician’s office if clinical or demographic data is incomplete. Perform QC for all accessioned demographic entries, and make corrections as needed. |

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- High school graduation
- Four (4) years of related administrative experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must be reliable, dependable, punctual and possess an excellent attendance record
- Excellent typing and data entry skills. Superior spelling and grammar, excellent oral and written communication with attention to nuances and detail
- Maintain focus and consistently deliver a quality product within tight timeframes
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge in all aspects of medical terminology as it applies to dermatology and pathology
