Novant Health Hospital Based Medicine Institute is recruiting for a Clinical Physician Executive (CPE) leader for the Greater Winston-Salem Market (GWSM). The preferred candidate for this position is an experienced physician with strong leadership experience, vision, and skilled in relationship building. This leader would join a vibrant leadership team focused on delivering excellent patient care while leading a spectrum of specialists to include Hospital Medicine (Hospitalists), Infectious Disease and Hospice and Palliative care in four acute care facilities in the GWSM (Greater Winston Salem Market). This leader will be responsible for providing direct supervision to the medical directors of the specialties and have oversight of about 90 physicians and 50 Advance Practice Providers. This position is expected to have a 0.7 Administrative footprint and a 0.3 Clinical footprint.

 

Positions supervised: Medical Directors within the assigned specialties including Hospital Medicine, Infectious Disease, Hospice and Palliative Care.

 

The Physician Market Executive will provide clinical leadership for the Novant Health Hospital Based Medicine (HBM) Institute in Greater Winston Salem Market.

 

  • Serve as the medical director for the specialty program at their home hospital fulfilling the duties of the medical director role.
  • Responsible for strategic growth, operational excellence, and clinical advancement of the specialties embedded within Hospital-Based Medicine Institute across all four Novant Health hospitals in the Greater Winston Salem Market.
  • Drive, lead, and plan efforts in partnership with the System Physician, System Administrative Executive and Director, GWSM to establish strategic plan, budgets, resource allocation, operational plans, and policies for Hospital-Based Medicine Institute.
  • Accountable for planning, directing, and coordinating all Hospital-based medicine initiatives to achieve key performance indicators for high quality patient services, operational excellence, and cost effectiveness, and will lead efforts to support system and regional network development.
  • Accountable for establishing strong professional relations with executive leadership, market presidents, chief clinical officers, physician and administrative institute leaders, physicians, pharmacy, and nursing across the market to deliver patient care, coordinate transitions of care, communicate, and interpret Novant Health and departmental mission goals and objectives to all areas of responsibility.
  • Provide administrative oversight and leadership in a manner that embraces the mission, credo, and vision of Novant Health.
  • Proposed Work Allocation Model:

What We're Looking For:

Required Education/License/Certification:

  • Board Certified MD or DO
  • License/Certification: Medical license in NC (North Carolina) required
  • Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine (CCM) or Internal Medicine/Critical Care Medicine (CCM)
  • Board Certification in:
    • CCM alone
    • CCM and Pulmonary combination

Required Experience:

    • Greater than five (5) years of experience as an ICU attending physician
    • Prior ICU Medical Director Experience
    • Participation in Quality and Safety work and other quality Initiatives
    • Multidisciplinary Approach to Critical Care
    • Committee Leadership
    • Throughput and capacity management initiatives
    • Sepsis Program involvement or oversight
    • Tele ICU experience
    • Development or implementation of models of care strategy

Preferred Experience:

    • ECMO experience or exposure
    • Cardiac Critical Care
    • Advanced Bronchoscopy
    • Research
    • Outpatient pulmonary practice
    • Advance degree (MBA, MHA, or MPH)

 

What You'll Do:
  • Participate in the development of patient safety and quality initiatives, including Mortality, Readmissions, Hospital Acquired infections, Patient experience and medical error prevention at Novant Health facilities in the Triad Region.
  • Participate on Facility and Corporate Committees as requested by System Physician and
  • System Administrative Executive with deliverables, such as Vizient Q&A Committee,
  • Mortality work Stream, Safety work stream and corporate sepsis committee.
  • Develop best practice protocols, report on pertinent outcome parameters, and assist in team education regarding Safety and Quality, cost containment and decrease physician practice variation within critical care medicine.
  • Participate in lung cancer council and pulmonary services to grow market share and impact patient care outcomes.
  • Perform bi-annual review of positions supervised.
  • Assist Novant Leadership in development and maintenance of provider compensation plans.
  • Assist in the recruitment of new providers to maintain coverage and increase based on growth.
  • Organize and chair periodic region team meetings with critical care providers including critical care council.
  • Participate in development of best practice model.
  • Problem solve complex operations issues.
  • Initiate and champion process improvement efforts.
  • Build relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned by NMG and HBM Leadership.
