About this role

As an intern, you will have the opportunity to gain practical experience through various projects. Each day, you will acquire knowledge by performing tasks as directed. You will also showcase your skills by supporting ABB’s operations and enhancing personal education/employment opportunities.

The work model for the role is onsite/hybrid in San Jose, CA.

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Assist in the design and development of Microsoft Azure cloud solutions, including storage, compute, networking, and AI/ML pipelines.
  • Support the integration of IoT/edge gateways with cloud backends for data flow and device management.
  • Explore and document Azure services and architectural best practices (security, scalability, monitoring).
  • Conduct research on AI and SaaS pricing models, including pay-per-use, subscription, and enterprise licensing.
  • Prepare presentations and documentation to summarize findings and propose recommendations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, product, and business) to validate solution approaches.
  • Assist in setting up CI/CD pipelines for deploying AI models and cloud services.
  • Contribute to data workflows, including data labeling, augmentation, and model evaluation using tools like Azure ML.
  • Participate in testing and simulation using digital twin environments to validate AI behavior before deployment.

Qualifications for the role:

  • Currently enrolled in a PhD or master’s degree program in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Software Engineering, or related fields, in the United States.
  • Intern must have reliable transportation to and from the worksite.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now and in the future.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills to analyze complex situations and develop strategic solutions.
  • Effectively organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Exhibit the capability to manage several tasks at once while maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Collaborate with team members to convey ideas, share information, and provide updates on project progress.
